Monday-Friday Nights Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Operates and tends all types of machine tool equipment such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, surface grinders etc. to produce tooling, fixtures, and consumable parts out of various metals to include steel and aluminum, as well as plastics and other non-metals.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Receives, with only general directions work assignments from Supervisor or Lead-person in the form of blueprint, technical specification or drawing.


May consult with Lead-person or more experienced Machinist regarding completeness of the specifications, prints, or sketches and to establish familiarity with all phases of the project and establish best machine methods and materials.


Builds special tooling and consumable parts within the tolerances specified equivalent to level of work experience.


May occasionally be called upon to perform production runs on CNC equipment, lathes, punch press, milling machines and related equipment.


Maintains a working knowledge of the various materials in which tooling may be specified as well as all machines, hand tools, and inspection equipment as necessary to produce machined parts to specified tolerances.


Builds special tools, fixtures, jigs, etc. for specific jobs and identifies them as such to the Tool room Foreman to ensure they remain available for repeat work orders.


Builds tooling in the most cost effective manner as determined by consultation with the Supervisor or Lead-person.


May work directly or indirectly with Designer or Project Engineer, as necessary.


Ensures all materials and tools are used effectively.


May guide the development of more junior Machinist.


Ensures that finished product is properly documented and prepared to send to the customer in a timely manner with all necessary documentation.


Makes minor adjustments or repairs to equipment as necessary.


Performs other related duties as assigned.


Identifies to Supervisor or Lead-person any specification, equipment, or material shortcomings.


Education


An Associates Degree in a Metals Trades or Machine Tool program through a qualified Technical School or no less than 18 months or its equivalent is required.


Experience


Will normally require two years broad based experience as a machinist.


Skills / Certifications


Equipment Utilization: Uses full range of machine tools to include lathe, grinder, drill press, milling machine, power saw, shearer, and associated equipment.


Must be able to accurately interpret specifications work from blueprint and bill of materials.


Must be able to handle and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds as well as manipulate a wide size and weight range of metal stock and related materials and power cutting or shearing tools.


Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and remain on feet most of workday.


Works in a busy machine shop environment, subject at times to noise, vibration, sharp work materials and tools, and moving equipment and machinery.


Required to wear Safety glasses as a minimum.


Hearing protection, and Respirators may be needed in some tasks, if so appropriate training will be provided and appropriate gloves as needed.


If Welding is required you will need protective clothing, gloves and appropriate welding hood or goggles.


May work under conditions of varying lighting levels and in restrictive workspaces.
