The Senior Specialist, International Volunteer Program & General Recruitment is responsible for identifying, fulfilling and coordinating demand for talent through management and recruitment of the volunteer and internship programs as well as support for the hiring of US employees. The individual in this role reports to the Senior Vice President, Human Resources and partners with Country Directors and field volunteer teams. This position is based in New York, NY. There are two positions in volunteer management that work together to complete the responsibilities outlined below.


Key Responsibilities


Volunteer Program:


  1. Develop and enhance annual volunteer plan which provides support for, and meets, the assessed needs of the CHAMPS programs, other CMMB programs, the country offices and the US office. This includes the philosophy, processes and standards, implementation and expansion of programs and the monitoring and measurement of the global volunteer program, internship and fellows programs.

  2. Ensures effective volunteer management practices and standards.

  3. Assesses organizational needs and identifies opportunities for roles, capabilities, timing and location.

  4. Determines staffing/volunteer mix and develops job descriptions; identifies required knowledge, skills, abilities and motivations required.

  5. Volunteer recruitment (see General Recruitment).

  6. Places volunteers, ensuring an effective match. Develop and implement orientation/on-boarding programs.

  7. Mobilizes and manages volunteers to enhance the vision and mission of CMMB and CHAMPS. Develops volunteer communication, evaluation and recognition systems.

  8. Manages databases and reports required for volunteer projects.

  9. Evaluates the success of the Volunteer Program in relation to planned outcomes and impact assessment.

  10. Develops and implements a volunteer alumni strategy and program that includes a referral program, opportunities for mentorship and coaching, encourages a donor and fundraising platform and enhances awareness of and commitment to CMMB and engagement in the CMMB “movement”.

  11. Develops and implements resource bases through strategic outreach and partnership strategies. Explores and develops partnerships, sponsorships and collaborations with numerous partner organizations including corporate, educational institutions, non-profits, and government. Establishes partnerships and partnership agreements. Advocates for voluntarism in the broader community.

General Recruitment


· Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing and recruitment strategies to meet the needs identified in the annual volunteer, intern and employee programs.


· Enhance and implement recruitment and sourcing strategies that result in achievement of having the right people (employees, volunteers and interns) in the right place at the right time.


· Conduct interviews and appropriate level of screening protocols.


· Develop and maintain an inventory of talent/skill needs, matching skills and abilities to projects for both short and long term resource bases.


· Analyzes and reports on recruiting metrics.


General


· Builds partnerships with country offices to ensure they have the appropriate level of support and development for all recruiting and sourcing.

Qualifications and Requirements


Competencies and skills


· Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation, and ability to motivate wide range of people. Sensitivity to issues of cultural diversity.


· Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated writing ability and some public speaking experience.


· Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage projects; strong organizational and administrative skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Oriented to detail.


· Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.


· Expert in using HR information systems processes for workforce planning, talent assessment and mapping, and recruitment and onboarding.


· Creative and strategic thinker possessing practical business orientation and very high energy.


· Consultative partnerships ability to build commitment and consensus through effectively influencing others.


Essential leadership characteristics and competencies


· The established track record of good business judgment and financial acumen.

Required experience and demonstrated results


· 5+ years[CF1] successful experience in volunteer management, preferably with an international public health NGO.


· Demonstrated recruiting experience and ability to creatively source and recruit candidates (employees, volunteers, interns, and fellows) locally and internally.


· Excellent proficiency in English (French and Spanish a plus).


· Previous overseas and/or multi-site experience strongly preferred.


· Must be comfortable working for a faith-based organization.


Education and/or certifications


· Undergraduate degree required. Masters degree in international relations, communications, project management, organizational development, nonprofit management, or commensurate experience required.


· SPHR certification is desirable.
