Digital Green is a not-for-profit international development organization that uses an innovative digital platform for community engagement to improve livelihoods of rural communities across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. We partner with public, private and civil society organizations to share knowledge on improved agricultural practices, livelihoods, health, and nutrition, using locally produced videos and human mediated dissemination. So far, Digital Green has reached more than 750,000 rural community members across over 8,000 villages in India, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Ghana, Niger and Tanzania. Collaborating with over 20 partners, Digital Green has helped facilitate the production and dissemination of nearly 4,000 localized videos in 28 languages. Job Summary


The Manager Writer-Editor is a critical part of Digital Green’s team in this exciting growth phase of our US operations. The primary function will be focused on supporting Digital Green’s quickly-growing portfolio of projects in Asia and Africa. S/he will be a core part of the US team, working closely with the Business Development Director to make meaningful strategic links between our current work and future directions. This position requires a passionate individual who can write quickly and with a high degree of competence, think broadly about strategic directions and dig into details of ongoing projects, track milestones and support their delivery. We are looking for a critical thinker who thrives on journalist-style investigative reporting, makes connections among far-flung projects and writes with clarity and passion. Exceptional writing skills are a must. The position is preferred to be based in the Washington, DC area.


Key Responsibilities


  • · Write project reports, M&E plans, performance management plans, work plans, environmental mitigation/ gender statements, work-plans, and quarterly/monthly/biannual reports, with input from other units (such as the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning, ICT, and Administration and Finance units)

  • · Provide ongoing programmatic and reporting support required by donor-funded projects in close coordination with field offices.

· Provide general copy-edit/editorial tasks for other communication materials such as the website, newsletters, internal reports, and the annual report


  • · Track project reporting schedules and key milestones

  • · Monitor compliance with project requirements including FAR or OMB Circulars for USAID contracts and cooperative agreements and foundation grant agreement requirements.

  • · Support the start-up and close-out process with field teams and serve as US point of contact with the donor for US-originating projects.

  • · Work with Business Development Director, headquarters and field project teams to review project activities and impact and draw themes and commonalities among them.

· Support business development activities by:


a. Drafting concept papers and proposal sections


b. Identifying creative ways to leverage project activities in reports and reported impact for the purposes of positioning DG


c. Identifying strategies for leveraging current awards to new opportunities.


d. Seeking opportunities for follow-on activities to current projects


  • · Support other functions of the US office as appropriate for a small multipurpose team supporting start-up operations

Qualifications and Experiences


  • · Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.

  • · Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience

  • · Exceptional writing skills are must

  • · Non Profit experience preferable.

  • · Ability to meet deadlines and produce material with short turnaround time when necessary.

  • · Inquisitive and critical thinking skills capable of drawing thematic connections as well as attending closely to details

Skills and Competencies


  • · Demonstrated programmatic, management, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with other professionals

  • · Experience in managing projects in compliance with US Government contracts and cooperative agreement rules and regulations. Experience with private foundation grants preferred.

  • · Demonstrated excellence in effective writing and verbal communication. (English required; language competency in other languages is a plus).

  • Demonstrated strong computer skills in all Microsoft Office applications

  • · Technical experience in the areas of agriculture, health, nutrition or ICT preferred.

  • · Candidates should be comfortable taking initiative within their authority, work well with others on small teams, be detail-oriented and well organized.

  • · Willing and able to work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment

  • · Willing to travel occasionally to different offices and engage with people of multiple cultures

  • · Flexible attitude towards changing priorities and ability to multi-task

  • · Strong initiative and leadership skills

· Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills


The Writer-Editor will report to the Business Development Director and may also provide other forms of support (e.g. scheduling, travel planning, and editorial assistance.
