Stock Worker, Bureau of the Public Health Laboratory - DEPT OF HEALTH/MENTAL HYGIENE - Manhattan, NY

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Public Health Laboratory, is seeking to hire a qualified Stock Worker II to perform the following duties.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:


–Under supervision, the Stock Worker, II will supervise a section of a storehouse, storage yard, or equivalent storage unit.


— Perform related work.


— Under supervision will receive, store, distribute and care for materials, supplies and equipment.


–Responsible for the storeroom, and may perform duties of the supervisor in his or her temporary absence.


–Check materials received against purchase orders, and notes breakage and discrepancies in quantity.


–Pack, unpack, count, weighs and measure materials, supplies and equipment.


–Verify, count and check orders before shipping or distribution.


–Pick supplies from shelves to fill requisitions, lift and carry supplies when necessary.


–Keep records, prepare reports, and assist in preparing inventories.


–Keep storage facilities and materials clean and orderly.


–Care for stock.


–Maintain, or assist in the maintenance of perpetual inventories and detailed inventory records.


–Act as a foreman, exercise direct supervision over Assistant Stock Handlers and/or other subordinate employees engaged in receiving, checking, storing, distributing and caring for materials, supplies and equipment.


–Load and unload at the storehouse and at the point of pick-up, delivery or distribution.


–For this purpose, may travel to point of pick-up, delivery or distribution.


— Also operate elevator and other necessary equipment to perform loading and unloading.

Preferred Skills


One (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience in the supervision of a section of a storehouse, storage yard or equivalent storage unit.
