LECTURER IN VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY - University System of New Hampshire - Durham, NH

This is an academic year appointment (88% time) with benefits, and an initial contract of 3 years with potential for renewal. Candidates with professional licensure as a veterinary technician, with interests in all aspects of veterinary medicine will be considered, to teach credit courses in the VTEC program of the Associate of Applied Science ( AAS ) degree, with the potential for additional courses in the Applied Animal Science program. The teaching load expectation for this position is a maximum of 24 credit hours per academic year. Besides teaching, the successful applicant may have expectations of administrative work and will have professional and service activities.

Additional Job Information

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching existing courses, and will be expected to regularly develop new content and/or courses to respond to changing industry employment needs. Courses to be taught may include Veterinary Surgical Assisting and Anesthesia, Fundamentals of Animal Health (a laboratory methods course), Veterinary Practice Management, Small Animal Practicum, Pharmacology, and Clinical Animal Nursing Techniques. Additional curricular responsibilities may include development and implementation of a veterinary dentistry course and an online hybrid Introduction to Veterinary Technology course. The individual may also be expected to do advising and to maintain existing veterinary equipment (dental, radiography, etc.) Successful candidates should be prepared to work collaboratively with existing faculty in the program and the other faculty within the Thompson School.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Qualified applicants must be a Licensed, Certified or Registered Veterinary Technician ( LVT , CVT or RVT ) with an undergraduate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited program. Strong background in surgery and anesthesia, animal handling and restraint is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in both large and small animal aspects of veterinary medicine. Demonstrated excellence in postsecondary teaching and advising is strongly preferred.
