Position Summary: **


The Technical Associate/Education will support data analysis activities related to assessment, monitoring & evaluation (M&E), and research on education projects in developing countries, mostly related to early grade reading and mathematics. Responsibilities will include reviewing and cleaning data collected in the field, applying standard statistical software (Stata or SPSS) to process and analyze data, produce data tables and graphs, and interpret results. S/he will also support the preparation of technical reports and presentations based on the results. S/he will be expected to think strategically about the uses of data and how to visualize the results for effective communication to clients, stakeholders, officials, schools, and communities. The Technical Associate/Education will work as part of a team to perform literature reviews, design assessments and evaluations, develop data collection instruments, prepare data collection applications, and download data from cloud-based servers. S/he will report directly to Technical Directors and Technical Managers in the Arlington, Virginia office. Current MSI/Tetra Tech education projects are in DRC, Egypt, Ghana, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Pakistan, Senegal, South Africa, Thailand, Uganda, and Washington, DC. Clients include USAID, UNICEF, DFID, private foundations, and partner organizations.

Responsibilities:



  • Support data analysis activities related to assessment, M&E, and research on education projects.




  • Conduct routine/established data processing and analysis under supervision from statisticians.




  • Apply standard statistical and/or data management software package(s) to execute procedures.




  • Review and clean data collected in the field, produce data tables and graphs, and interpret results.




  • Conduct rigorous quality control and quality assurance checks on data for all reporting purposes.




  • Support the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and brochures based on the results.




  • Think strategically about the uses of data and the visualization of results for effective communication.




  • Participate in literature reviews, assessment and evaluation designs, and instrument development.




  • Contribute to preparing electronic data collection applications and downloading data from servers.




  • Collaborate effectively with the education team, including technical associates, managers, and directors.



Qualifications:



  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, statistics, or a related area.




  • Minimum 2 years of post-bachelor’s experience in a national or international setting.




  • Some experience with assessment, M&E, and research activities in any field.




  • Experience with programming, data analysis, and data reporting in any field.




  • Background in examining details and figuring out solutions to problems involving data.




  • Successful use of software such as Excel, Stata, or SPSS to solve data issues.




  • Ability to work with a team that includes technical directors, managers, and associates.




  • Excellent writing, analytical, speaking, and communication skills in English.



Desired Skills



  • Knowledge of education issues, including a background in teaching, tutoring, or training.




  • Background in developing and implementing assessment, monitoring, and evaluation tools.




  • Experience in writing reports that involve analyzing data and interpreting results.




  • Communication skills in languages such as Arabic, French, Portuguese, or Spanish.
