This position requires an individual who is able to work independently or with light supervision on a Scrum dev team and/or a Kanban driven Technical Operations team. You will be working with an intelligent, experienced, and close knit team of system administrators, developers, and testers on a variety of projects. As a growing company, we are evolving and refining our methodologies and you will have an opportunity to be part of that growth. You will also have the opportunity to grow by learning new technologies (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Vertica, etc.).


Extensive communication with system administrators and application developers is expected. You must have excellent communication skills, a professional attitude, and a strong work ethic.


Job Description of the Database Administrator :


  • Installing, deploying and upgrading production and non-production databases.

  • Testing new RDBMS features for later integration into infrastructure and applications.

  • Monitoring database availability and performance.

  • Refreshing Non-production environments with data from production databases.

  • Recommending system hardware and software configurations for given data processing loads.

  • Analyzing storage options, recommends storage hardware and configuration for optimal DB performance.

  • Managing user access rights and user resource quotas.

  • Participating in weekly DBA on-call rotation, supporting production environment.

  • Providing support to developers working on SQL, including development of best practices, hands on demos, and knowledge transfer.

  • Ability to self-initiate, prioritize and execute effectively in a dynamic work environment with multiple concurrent demands

  • Partner with product teams to find solutions for projects and operational issues

Basic Qualifications of the Database Administrator :

  • 3+ years of DBA experience with RDBMS systems such as PostgreSQL and Oracle.

  • Proven experience maintaining and supporting critical production systems

  • Proven experience maintaining Data Warehouse or/and Analytics databases

  • Proven experience maintaining standby and replicated databases

  • Proven DBA level knowledge of Unix fundamentals and shell scripting

  • Demonstrated experience with performance tuning/query optimization

Preferred Qualifications of the Database Administrator :

  • Experience with other database technologies such as Vertica and MySQL

  • Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB

  • Contributes to open source community

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (EC2, RDS)
