The Connectivity and Compute (CCX) team is looking for a system architect to join our growing business. CCX has a broad portfolio of SoC products with industry leading Ethernet network features and security solutions. Our products are used in a wide range of systems including Point of Sale devices, Enterprise Access Points, and Network Interface Controllers.

This Principal Systems Architect will be defining the requirements for a high performance SoC with extensive integrated packet processing features and associated hardware acceleration. This position will drive the overall device architecture, leveraging IP from existing SoC devices and developing requirements for new features. A major focus will be on the packet processing required to support advanced features for service provider and enterprise applications.

The CCX architecture team works with marketing and customers to define the feature set for each device. We develop an understanding of target applications as the system solution level, identifying the market challenges and opportunities to create best-in-class solutions. The products leverage embedded ARM processors as well as Broadcom’s extensive IP portfolio. Our group takes each product from concept through detailed definition, working closely with ASIC design teams and software development teams.

Key responsibilities:

•    Lead and participate in the development of overall system architecture for high performance SoCs with strong networking capabilities

•    Engage with customers, marketing team and other architects to understand near term and future technical requirements

•    Work closely with hardware and software teams to evaluate architectural trade-offs and create optimal system solutions

•    Write specifications including product requirements documents and architecture specifications – including providing clear requirements for packet processing and supporting hardware acceleration

•    Create Powerpoint presentations for internal and outbound use

•    Collaborate extensively with architecture peers to efficiently share knowledge and define common IP where practical

•    An interest in getting into the details and working with design teams to optimize implementations is a good match for this position and good fit with current team members.

Requirements

•    Typically requires a BS degree and 15 years of experience or an MS degree and 12 years of experience or a PhD and 9 years of experience; Will consider candidates with less experience at a lower level.

•    Knowledge of processors, processor subsystems; ARM strongly preferred

•    Experience with ASIC design/definition required; experience with SoC’s preferred

•    Strong familiarity with networking, specifically Ethernet, required

•    Familiarity with Mobile backhaul and cellular technology is a strong positive.

•    Strong communication skills, particularly writing specifications

•    Self-motivated, team-player with ability to excel in team environment is required

•    Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (Europe, Asia) – 10-25%
