Stock Clerk - County of Santa Clara - San Jose, CA

Under supervision, receives, stores and issues a variety of materials, supplies and equipment in a departmental supply unit.

This list will be used to fill part time and full time vacancies as they occur.


Currently, the Registrar of Voters Office is looking for extra help (temporary) Stock Clerks. Under the guidance of a lead, the Stock Clerk will assist with supply inventories, creation of display boards, packaging small to medium supply kits, and packaging of large supply kits from multiple items in preparation for delivery.


Incumbents operate manual and low level electronic machinery to move materials within the warehouse areas and exercise physical exertion in the movement of supplies for testing and quality control process.


Incumbents may be assigned to support with mass mailing operation, load and unload stock from delivery trucks, and be a navigator with a delivery team with a truck in delivering materials. After Election Day, incumbents will be assigned to organize, sort, and attain physical counts of materials to be restocked.


Those selected are expected to be regularly available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed due to the workload, particularly close to an election, for approximately two to four months, beginning March 2016 to June 2016, and again from August 2016 to November 2016.


A position in Social Services Agency, Benefits Assistance Center (BAC) serves as a critical part of the support staff team. Regular work hours are 7:30am-4:30pm*, Monday-Friday. The BAC consists of clerical staff, clerical leads, Office Managers, and one Administrative Support Officer that oversees the entire operation. The support staff in this office support more than 400 Eligibility Workers, 40+ Eligibility Worker Supervisors, and the Management staff. Confidentiality and communication is a must. Staff interacts daily with both internal and external customers and is expected to do their best to give superior customer service.

Typical Tasks:
Checks items received or issued for proper quantity and descriptions;


Unpacks, sorts and stores items systematically on shelves, bins or other storage areas;


Withdraws items from stores to fill orders;


Issues items;


Makes pickups or deliveries by hand or motorized vehicles;


Marks items with numbers or other identifying codes;


Records items in and out of stores and reports low counts;


Assists in taking inventories;


Makes pickups and deliveries of miscellaneous articles;


May make some minor adjustments or repairs of equipment;


May operate material handling equipment, including forklifts;


May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;


Performs related work as required.


Employment Standards:
Sufficient education and experience, which demonstrates possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities:


Training and Experience:
The knowledge and abilities required to perform this function are normally attained through training and experience equivalent to possession of a high school diploma and one (1) year of experience in storeroom methods and procedures used in the receipt, storage and issuance of goods.


Possession of a valid California Drivers license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County Drivers Permit is required for some positions.


Possession and maintenance of a Forklift Operators Certification within six (6) months of appointment is required for some positions.


Knowledge of:
Storeroom methods and procedures used in the receipt, storage and issuance of goods.


Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written instructions;


Exercise physical exertion in the movement of moderately heavy or bulky supplies or equipment;


Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;


Perform basic clerical work including simple computer usage.
