Clerk I

The Diet Clerk processes diet orders for the patients. This person makes diet cards for use on patient trays and assists in communicating information regarding diet orders and production information. The Diet Clerk works under the general supervision of the Food Service Director and has no supervisory duties. Completion of work requires use of established methods and/or techniques to make decisions that are varied but based on well-defined guidelines. The Diet Clerk has no fiscal responsibility but is accountable for assigned property.

The Diet clerk is required to have a high school diploma or GED, plus one-year experience as a clerk or have worked in Food Services. Training in the duties of the Secretary is needed. This person should have experience in serving of diets. Computer experience is necessary.

The Diet Clerk needs knowledge of diets, and the ability to communicate effectively using written and oral language.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Prepare Diet Cards using the diet order. 2. Prepare Diet Count Sheet 3. Prepare Snack labels and supplement labels.

4. Work on tray line as needed.

5. Performs duties assigned by supervisors which are not designated in other task assignments but are within the abilities and training of the employee in order to meet the need of the dept. or facility.

6. Shall accept safety as a personal responsibility and comply with all established safety rules, regulations and procedures.

7. Attends work punctually and as scheduled by complying with department Policies and Procedures regarding sick-leave, call-ins, absenteeism, and tardiness, avoiding unscheduled vacation leave and comp time.

8. Complies with the organizational rules/policies on confidentiality and the ethical standards of the organization and specific discipline.

9. Works harmoniously with other employees to generate a productive, cohesive, and culturally diversified work environment, and establish and maintain a positive rapport with and toward persons served.

10. Will comply with all facility/department policies concerning dress codes.

11. Comply with all V-WFSH Security Policies.

Initial Selection Criteria:

Must have a HS Diploma or GED. Experience working in a health care facility working in a preparation area and serving modified diets. Must have experience working with diet orders from a physician. Computer experience is a must.
