Parking Enforcement Officer - City of Champaign, IL - Champaign, IL





The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as a Parking Enforcement Officer in the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities of Position

The person in this position patrols metered streets and parking lots on foot or by vehicle, issuing violation notices using a computerized handheld ticket writer. The employee provides excellent customer service by providing directions, responding to questions on a variety of City services, and explaining parking options and enforcement procedures to citizens. Responsibilities including participating in City snow and ice and other emergency response operations including working 12-hour shifts at all hours of the day and night. The schedule for this position is 12:00 noon – 9:00 pm, Monday – Friday with occasional after-hours routine work.


Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to patrol a one-mile radius on foot without returning to vehicle.

  • Ability to remove a 22-lb boot from a City vehicle, install it on a vehicle, remove it, and return it to a City vehicle, with or without accommodation.

  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

  • Ability to work emergency operations and/or enforcement activities outside of regular hours.

  • Good driving record and valid state-issued driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High volume, face to face customer service experience.

  • Snow removal experience.

  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Experience explaining policy and enforcing regulations.

  • Experience with high volume alpha-numeric data entry.

Drug screening will be required. The starting salary is $18.2104 per hour, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications must be submitted online no later than Friday, March 13, 2016.
