United States of America: Policy Program Assistant


Position Description


Asylum Access seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Policy Program Assistant based out of the Asylum Access Headquarters in Oakland, CA. The Policy Program Assistant will support developing, refining, and disseminating content for Asylum Access’s Refugee Work Rights Action Platform. The Action Platform is a publically accessible website providing evidence-based tools that support advocacy around refugee work rights. As a result of the use of this tool, refugees’ rights will be expanded, and their integration into local communities and self-reliance will be promoted. The ultimate impact will be a paradigm shift in the global refugee rights landscape.


The Policy Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the generation of government engagement tools such as model press releases, case studies, policy briefs, webinars, etc., organizing international trainings, updating web content, and performing additional duties per grant requirements. The successful candidate will be a passionate human rights advocate, creative problem-solver, highly organized, and exceptional relationship-builder across multiple cultures and languages. The Policy Program Assistant will also provide critical administrative support to the policy team. The Policy Program Assistant will work under the supervision of the Global Policy Associate Alen Mirza, and also work closely with our Global Policy Director Jessica Therkelsen to make refugee rights a reality.


Key Responsibilities


Content Development and Management


· Assist in drafting and refining of Action Platform website content, including government engagement tools such as model press releases, case studies, policy briefs, webinars etc.


· Update and maintain the Action Platform website, social media, and blog with refugee work rights developments from around the world. Author original content as needed.


· Support the engagement of Refugee Work Rights Coalition members in the development and dissemination of Action Platform tools.


Logistics and Administrative Support


· Facilitate regional refugee work rights workshops and trainings, organize venue, travel, visas, and other items as needed.


· Support development of recruitment strategies for users of the Action Platform globally.


· Support relevant global programming collaborations, especially with the Refugee Rights Toolkit.


· Coordinate with coalition members to set and lead periodic meetings, develop Action Platform content and shape the larger Refugee Work Rights Campaign strategy.


· Coordinate Global Policy Director’s calendar, travel and talking points as needed.


Monitoring and Evaluations


· Create and disseminate surveys and other data collection methodologies to evaluate the effectiveness of the design, functionality and content of the Action Platform


· Help conduct online and in-person engagement with end users in order to collect feedback on the usability of the Action Platform, and the usefulness and effectiveness of the tools and training methodology.


· Coordinate with various Asylum Access departments to ensure that all relevant grant-reporting requirements and benchmarks are satisfied on time.


Qualifications


· Bachelor’s degree; Masters or professional degree an asset


· Disciplined and quick follow-up to emails and other communication


· Impeccable attention to detail and ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects


· Strong written and verbal communication skills


· Comfortable taking initiative; proven ability to take a project from idea to implementation


· Ability to meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities


· Capable of working cooperatively, effectively and accurately under pressure in an office setting


· Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and/or experience an asset


· Creative and effective problem-solver


· Enthusiastic about making human rights a reality


· High degree of professionalism


· Experience communicating with the public in a professional and international context an asset


· Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish and other languages an asset


· Experience working with volunteers


· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products; Salesforce experience an asset


· Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided

Duration:


This position is for a maximum 2-year contract period with the potential for renewal based on funding.
