Motor Vehicle Specialist I job - Arapahoe County, CO - Aurora, CO

This is the first step in a three-step career progression for Motor Vehicle Specialist.

Under general supervision, the employee performs a variety of clerical and customer service work, which ensures compliance with statutes and mandates that govern motor vehicle regulations for titling and/or registering vehicles, issuing Colorado Drivers License and Identification cards in Arapahoe County.

Duties:


This position in an entry-level position in the Motor Vehicle division. This position should be able to work independently most of the time after receiving the appropriate training. The Motor Vehicle Specialist I is distinguished from upper level positions by the degree of work experience and basic knowledge of the motor vehicle process.


Primary Job Functions:


Effectively communicates with constituents, dealerships, and finance companies.


Refers complex and difficult problems to supervisor.


Collects ownership tax, license fees, and sales tax as acting agent for the State of Colorado.


Processes applications for motor vehicle titles and registrations.


Reconciles daily cash drawer and deposits accurately.


Processes Colorado Identification Cards/Drivers Licenses and all associated transactions within the Drivers License Division.


Performs at an accepted level of productivity in the following categories:
Mortgage mail.


Motor Vehicle correspondence.


Counter duties to include – General data entry, issuing titles, registrations, permits, handicap placards, emissions extensions, duplicate titles, Identification Cards and Drivers Licenses.


Telephones duties.


VIN verifications.


Additional Job Functions:
May perform voter registration.


May issue marriage licenses.


May perform elections-related duties.


May be required to float between Motor Vehicle and Drivers License Offices within Arapahoe County.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:


This position requires punctuality, reliability, and flexibility and willingness to adjust schedule to include overtime when needed.


Ability to read, understand and interpret state statutes, regulations and procedures applicable to the process applications for motor vehicle titles/registrations and Drivers Licenses.


Ability to reconcile daily cash drawer and deposit accurately.


Ability to research multiple sources for information.


Ability to memorize information.


Ability to multi task in a high stress environment is essential.


Effective verbal and written communications.


Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of personal computer equipment and software such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook


EDUCATION:

High School Graduation or GED equivalent.


EXPERIENCE:


A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years office environment, phone experience, and general computer skills.


Cash handling and customer service preferred.


Motor Vehicle Title and/Registration or Drivers License experience highly preferred.


(An equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be sufficient).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED :
Receives immediate supervision from the Motor Vehicle Branch Manager, Drivers License Manager, Assistant Motor Vehicle Branch Manager, Drivers License Lead, and Deputy of Motor Vehicle. May receive supervision from the Chief Deputy, or the Clerk and Recorder.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED :
None.


INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS :
Contacts are with superiors, peers, subordinates, elected officials, clients, and/or vendors. Contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of interpersonal skills to influence persons at all levels. Incumbent is accountable for the results of the contact.


WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
