Laboratory Technician II - Iowa State University - Ames, IA

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for part-time Laboratory Technician II. This position is located in the Molecular-Virology- HATS section at the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory ( VDL ). The VDL provides comprehensive and cutting edge diagnostic services to veterinarians, producers, and animal owners throughout the United States.

This position is responsible for the daily receipt, aseptic handling, and labeling of samples submitted to the VDL for use in diagnostic testing. Responsibilities include the complex, technical processing of a variety of biological samples including blood, serum, saliva, and other specimens for distribution to appropriate laboratories. The position is also responsible for maintaining the processing area including monitoring the inventory of necessary supplies, monitoring equipment performance, and cleaning laboratory spaces.


The successful candidate will have sufficient hand-eye coordination to work efficiently and accurately, as well as, the ability to be flexible to shifting workloads.


Required Qualifications

1. Two years of related Laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or 2. Certified Laboratory Assistant ( CLA ) certification, or 3. Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.


Special Qualifications

Must have accurate color recognition.


Preferred Qualifications

– Experience in a high volume laboratory setting.

– Experience with aseptic technique.

– Experience with a laboratory information management system.
