The Applications, Services and Dynamics team in Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) is looking for a seasoned attorney to provide front-line legal and regulatory counseling to the Skype engineering team.
The attorney’s responsibilities will include:
• Driving the creation of Skype engineering and business plans to comply with the international regulatory and policy regimes applicable to the Skype service, through close collaboration with Regulatory Affairs and the Office of the General Counsel;
• Developing and implementing a process to educate Microsoft field communities about Skype business and technical strategies, while simultaneously advising the business about existing and upcoming policy and regulatory trends observed by the field or subject matter specialists; and,
• Supporting Microsoft field and specialist communities by addressing questions, creating content and helping to develop responses to customers as well as regulatory and policy inquiries.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in the technology sector and demonstrated success in dealing with complex regulatory issues.
Specific requirements include:
• 5+ years of relevant experience as an attorney in the technology community
• Proven track record of excellent teamwork and collaboration across geographies, with strong EMEA experience preferred
• Understanding of the dynamic environment in which Microsoft does business and its implications for policy and technical strategy
• Demonstrated ability to successfully positively contribute to complex product initiatives with many different stakeholders and interests both internally and externally
• Extremely strong written, oral, presentation, cross-group collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Strong planning and organization skills, including proven ability to think strategically and execute on plans to achieve both short-term and long-term results
• Experience with complex regulatory issues, preferably involving privacy, security and telecommunications law
• Ability to analyze complex issues and work effectively with cross-group teams to develop responsive internal and external messaging
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic changing environment
