We are responsible for identity and access control management, secrets/key management, encryption and data protection, security monitoring agent, anti-malware protection, fraud detection automation, and other security capabilities for the Azure platform. We are looking for a manager to lead, define, and design cloud scale platform security services in these areas. This is a unique opportunity building and owning core security technologies and applying them to the cloud scale. In this position, you will be responsible for all aspects of building and running highly available secure distributed services providing mission critical functionality for Azure. These are high visibility projects which are of the highest priority for Azure.

Qualifications include:

Strong design and development experience, preferably with distributed programming models.

Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.

Experience managing at least 3-5 developers and leading them through at least one ship cycle.

Passion in building and designing very large scale systems; prior experience in building large scale online systems is a big plus.

The ability to multi-task while balancing short term and long term needs is essential.

Job Purpose:

As part of the Corporate Functions IT leadership team, you will lead the Service Engineering Organization that deploys and provides escalation support for our four distinct business functions that run the company: HR, Finance, Legal and IT. In this role, you will leverage your technical experience and knowledge in services architecture to design and deploy scalable solutions, collaborating with multiple teams and disciplines to create truly horizontally-scalable and robust services.

We particularly look for at least one of two backgrounds: either as a developer or as an operations engineer (preferably both). If you were a developer, you were the one on the team who got most excited by increasing the availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of your services-oriented architecture. You loved adding telemetry to your application so that you could investigate how your users interacted with and experienced your application.   If you were an operations engineer, you were the one who was keen on automation, never wanting to do the same manual task twice.

Core Job Responsibilities include:  

  Develop and maintain a vision and strategy for the Service Engineering Organization

  Develop and own the strategy and roadmap for tools to support Service Engineering‘s catalog of Services

Skills/Qualifications:

  Minimum 10+ years of current software development/service engineering expertise and a minimum of 5 years leading or managing a high performing Engineering or Service Engineering organization

  Expertise in a scripting language such as Powershell, Python, or Perl

  Knowledge in OOD and an OOP language such as C# or Java

Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure and Operations (MICO) team is chartered with supporting profitable growth of Microsoft’s Cloud business by optimizing the infrastructure capacity management.   Cloud services enable a promise of elastic scale and infinite capacity. The Service Deployment and Operations (SDO) organization is a global organization responsible for IT Hosting Services and IT Support Services. We have a passion for quality, service and technology, and we are looking for a seasoned Program Manager to join Global Capacity Services’ (GCS) leadership team. This Program Manager role will focus on driving Infrastructure service costing (on-premise and Azure), charge back / show back models and predictive financial analysis to help improve our service strategy and service offerings. This role will act as the primary liaison with IT customers and finance business partners to develop, manage, and report infra services consumption data, historical trends and future forecasts to help them better utilize our services and levers to optimize.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  Partner with the EIS (Enterprise Infra Services) service owners to develop financial service costing and service charge back models and analytics to support and inform service chargeback / showback strategy.

  Partner with the IT finance organization to define IT wide strategy and the implementation of infrastructure services chargeback/showback, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and cost optimization.

  Partner with consumers (BPUs - IT Business Process Units) of infrastructure services to develop showback/chargeback analytics, reporting views and review cadence to establish ongoing understanding of consumption of Infrastructure services and the resulting financial impact.

  Help IT BPUs and IT leadership teams to understand the trends and levers to help optimize costs related to infrastructure services.

  Collaborate with Infra service owners and Finance organization establish processes to integrate service costing and chargeback policies into ongoing budgeting and planning cycles

  Program manage the next gen billing/showback/chargeback platform launch in partnership with GCS billing, other partners like GFS and Azure and external solution providers like Apptio and Cloud Cruiser.

  Provide ‘what if’ modeling/analysis as needed

  Unit cost analysis for SDO service (cost per ticket, cost per alert, cost per server, etc.)

  Cost roadmap and impact for cloud adoption using Azure.

  Assist in creating content and performing periodic presentations to educate the broader team on.

Competencies Required:

  Service costing and cost modeling expertise with excellent overall financial analysis and planning skills, including ability to assess current strategies and develop new strategies to optimize the business. Experience operating within large enterprise infrastructure environments and services a plus.

  Ability to communicate financial information in way that is easily understood and actionable by all levels.

  Excellent communication and negotiation skills that can be employed when partnering with Finance business partners and other stakeholders in order to build relationships and achieve goals.

  Ability to understand complex financial systems interactions and reporting structures.

  Comfortable working with all levels of management and critically evaluate and concisely communicate business issues/risks with conviction to business and financial partners.

In this role you will work closely with licensing executives, engineers in Microsoft’s various businesses, and patent prosecution and litigation attorneys in support of Microsoft’s patent development, licensing programs, litigation efforts and acquisition efforts.   Exemplary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  Contributing to IIPG’s strategy development process by applying your technical proficiency and creative problem solving skills to recognize market trends, opportunities and threats

  Researching emerging technology areas, including working with Microsoft engineering teams, to identify critical areas of technology that will be important to Microsoft in the near future

  Identifying and analyzing patents in Microsoft’s portfolio that may be relevant to technologies that are being deployed widely

  Reviewing patent applications during key points of the patent lifecycle to provide detailed guidance on prosecution, international filing decisions, continuations, abandonments, etc. that are necessary to build and maintain our portfolio  

  Reviewing potential ideas coming from inventors all over Microsoft and providing input on which ones should be patented

  Analyzing on patent portfolios that IIPG is evaluating for acquisition to inform its potential value

  Evaluating 3rd party patents, when necessary, in support of licensing negotiations or litigation

  Managing and reviewing work product of external vendors who provide portfolio analysis services  

The Patent team currently has 20+ Patent Engineers with diverse backgrounds and technical expertise.   There is an established career path for the Engineers to grow and advance within IIPG, while staying technical.

Desired qualifications:

  7-9 years work experience and/or research in ONE of the following technical areas:

1. Search & Ads:   search engine technologies, including core search, web crawling/indexing, ranking/relevance, SERP development, local/mobile search, social networks, shopping and ecommerce, and advertising platforms including search and display ads.  

2. User Interfaces: Experience in the design, coding and/or testing of technologies that enable people to interact with computers and other devices, including graphical user interfaces and natural user interfaces. A general understanding of traditional human-computer interfaces, inking, speech, and augmented/virtual reality is preferred but not required.  

  A degree in computer science, computer or electrical engineering or physics or significant work experience in software or hardware development

  Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex situations to diverse audiences

  Demonstrated outstanding written and verbal communication

  Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Excel, proficiency in PowerPoint and ability to ramp quickly on a variety of analytical tools
