United States of America: Information Officer/Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Macfadden is seeking several Information Officers/Specialists to provide information support to USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance. USAID/OFDA provides humanitarian assistance for the U.S. Government (USG) in response to natural disasters and complex emergencies. As part of a regional team based in Washington, D.C., or serving on disaster response teams in Washington or overseas, Information Officers/Specialists monitor and report on humanitarian conditions and response activities. Information Officers/Specialists produce a wide range of public and internal information products and are required to conceive and design charts, graphs, and other visual aids.

Willingness to serve on extended international deployments (up to eight weeks or more at a time) to disaster zones, including conflict-affected areas, often on short notice, is required. Travel ranges from 30 to 50 percent of the year.

Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills and have exceptional attention to detail. Candidates must be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and have the ability to work under tight deadlines in an extremely fast-paced and collaborative environment. Foreign language ability preferred.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Collect and synthesize information pertaining to humanitarian emergencies and response efforts, and draw upon that information to draft, edit, appropriately format, and disseminate a wide range of internal and external information products in Washington, D.C., and overseasAttend meetings in Washington, D.C., and in disaster zones and collaborate closely with information counterparts from other USG agencies, the U.N., and non-governmental organizations to ensure that all relevant humanitarian information is obtained and communicated to USAID/OFDA staffUpon the request of USAID/OFDA staff, gather information for or participate in field assessments, meetings, and site visits overseasPrepare talking points, memos, PowerPoint presentations, official cables, and other correspondenceAssist with the preparation of agendas and briefings for official USG officials interested in humanitarian issues

EDUCATION:

· Master’s degree in international affairs or related discipline

· 2-4 years of work experience

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

· Working knowledge of and interest in humanitarian issues

· Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

· Overseas experience

· Great interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated ability to work well with others and meet deadlines in a challenging, fast-paced environment

U.S. Citizenship is required; selected candidate must be able to qualify for a government sponsored security clearance.

The New Community College (NCC) at the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a skilled and experienced educator in Information Technology to join its faculty to teach in the curriculum's first-year experience of inter-disciplinary coursework rooted in experiential learning activities with New York City as a primary text and laboratory, as well as in the major. The successful candidate will be an effective educator committed to preparing urban community college students, who typically enter unprepared to do college work, for academic success and completion. To do so, the candidate will make use of a range of effective curricular, pedagogical and support strategies and be flexible and open to sharing and learning from others. The candidate must be committed to the College's vision to serve a linguistically and culturally diverse student body and to teaching in the first year experience. This tenure-track appointment will begin in the Summer/Fall 2012 semester.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have broad knowledge and expertise to teach students the foundations of IT, including courses in programming, networking, databases, and web-based systems; and provide learning opportunities to cultivate logical and analytical thinking for students to apply in various contexts across the disciplines and life. Moreover, s/he will employ hands-on teaching methods to engage students with course content relevant to real businesses to gain relevant exposure to and knowledge of the field and enter the job market with marketable technical skills to meet the computer technology needs of various organizations.

The general duties of a faculty member include but are not limited to teaching courses in the first-year core and in the majors; advising and supporting students as they progress; participating in committees and other governance structures; scholarship in the discipline and/or teaching and learning; and performing administrative, supervisory, and other duties as may be assigned.

Prior to NCC's opening, appointed faculty and staff will work as a team to develop programs at a new institution dedicated to rethinking community college education to improve student learning and completion. Candidates will have the capacity to work with their colleagues to develop courses and learning goals, create learning communities, and define and participate in faculty development initiatives. They will be comfortable crossing disciplinary boundaries, as they will be expected to develop and teach interdisciplinary courses as well as in a major field.

Minimum Qualifications: A Doctoral degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, and Software Engineering, or a related discipline required. Preferred technology specializations include programming, networking, databases, and/or web-based systems.

Other Qualifications:
-Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective instructional strategies and openness to adopting new practices
-Ability to conduct ongoing learning assessments for both formative and summative purposes
-Understanding of urban community college students' assets and challenges.

The incumbent works with responsible parties, receiving in/out bound telephone calls, providing customer service through explaining why they are being billed and following-up on past due accounts using approved collection techniques.

JOB DUTIES: . Works with internal and external customers to resolve assigned portfolio of accounts by collection the balance due or by taking other action (write-offs billing to another source, in-house collections or referral to attorney or collections agency, etc.) . Works with pharmacy billing associates in obtaining accurate billing and resident information and re-billing and resoling unpaid claims through adjudication. . Works with Collection Manager/Supervisor in researching pharmacy accounts requiring special attention, as indicated on Collection reports and taking all necessary action to collect money. . Works with third-party insurers, Medicaid, Medicare and assigned pharmacy locations to resolve unapplied cash issues, in a timely manner. . Works with assigned pharmacy locations, nursing home accounts and individual customers in receiving inbound correspondence and mailing outbound collection letters for 90 day active/inactive accounts and discontinuation of service letters. . Works with Collections Manager/Supervisor and other members of the management team on special projects as needed.

Requirements: . High School graduate, GED or equivalent . 1 year billing experience . Must have 2-3 years healthcare collections experience . 10 key by touch, data entry, MS Excel and Word .
