Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development, and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 70 projects in 35 countries and total revenues of approximately $173 million.

We seek a D.C.-based Technical Director who will be responsible for the management of global learning projects, provision of technical support to field-based projects and new business initiatives, and development and dissemination of high-quality technical approaches and tools in the area of market systems.

Responsibilities include the following:
• Provide leadership in defining and enhancing best practices and methods in the value chain approach and market systems facilitation.
• Develop learning products, training curricula, and job aids to accompany products.
• Collaborate with other departments as necessary to establish core technical materials, information resources, and trainings.
• Act as the point person for the integration of market systems facilitation into projects.
• Share technical learning and teach others to be leaders in market systems facilitation.
• Keep current with literature and other advances in the field and relevant professional organizations.
• Manage global learning projects as assigned, directing the work of staff and consultants.
• Plan and supervise project activities and ensure the timely production of high-quality deliverables.
• Monitor budgets in accordance with work plan; track use of program’s financial resources.
• Manage program relationships with donor, subawardees, and other strategic partners.
• Participate in field-based project management by providing technical oversight and guidance as needed for specific projects.
• Respond to technical needs from practice areas, project staff, and others.
• Foster collaboration and collegiality across work groups including field offices.
• Contribute to proposal efforts by participating in planning sessions, providing extensive technical content, serving as lead writer, or acting as proposal manager.
• Complete proposal activities such as identifying key personnel, collaborating with partner organizations, collecting field research, and writing technical approach sections.
• Collaborate with Communications & Outreach to market ACDI/VOCA’s commitment to technical learning.

A master’s degree in international development, agriculture, finance, economics, business administration, or other related field, and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in international development or related field are required. Candidates must have experience with multimedia applications and Microsoft programs. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent written, oral, and reading comprehension abilities. Foreign language fluency is preferred. This position requires international travel to developing countries.

Performs all functions related to Specialty item preparation, counter service sanitation, and stocking of products. Purchases and merchandises specific Specialty items for the department. Maintains a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly and efficient Customer Service.

DUTIES:

- Provide excellent customer service

- Perform all duties and responsibilities of Specialty Team Member

- Purchase specific Specialty items for department as assigned by TL including but not limited to Charcuterie, Chocolate, Beer, Wine, Cheese, Housewares, Etc.

- Responsible for achieving and exceeding margin and sales targets

- Request and ensure proper signs for all sale items

- Participate in regional promotions program

- Process invoices and returns

- Control spoilage and/or generate turn movement; and participate in monthly inventory

- Comply with all regulations when assisting customers in selecting products that best suits their needs

- Supervise TM’s as assigned by TL

- Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and adhere to safe work practices.

- Operate and sanitize all equipment in a safe and proper manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Extensive Specialty knowledge in cutting, production, and taste description

- Ability to perform physical requirements of a position that requires a great deal of lifting and stacking of boxes

- Ability to learn proper use of baler (age restrictions may apply) and all other equipment used during food preparation and clean up

- Ability to get work well with others work as part of a team

- Communicate and teach product knowledge to TM’s and Customers

- Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.

Essential Job Functions:
Stand and walk for extended periods of time. Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat. Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds. Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)

This position develops concepts and processes to help management make strategic marketing decisions. Role achieves this by creating and analyzing relevant market intelligence information, creating processes that contribute to market planning, by project management and timely communication of proposals. This position also works with stakeholders to implement or assist in implementation.

Key Responsibilities include:
a) Develop proposals / concepts / tools to help Construction Chemicals make improved midterm and longer term marketing decisions

b) Create, maintain and coordinate market intelligence data for Construction Chemicals

c) Promote a consistent approach in market planning/budget support

d) Identify strategies of key competitors and benchmark vs BASF

e) Develop information tools to make industry market forecasts relevant to BASF

f) Develop proposals from scenario analysis

g) Contribute on teams or lead projects as needed

h) Communicate proposals that are actionable by others in Construction Chemicals

Success in this position depends upon building partnerships to achieve objectives and on communicating ideas from analysis.

Role will work with Industry Approaches team, EBN management, key BASF functions related to construction and report to Manager, Industry Approaches.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Required:
