MPs support battlefield operations through circulation control, providing area security, conducting prisoner of war operations, supervising civilian internee operations, and carrying out law and order operations.

MPs also support the peacetime Army community protecting critical resources, implementing crime prevention programs, and preserving law and order.

The skills and experience you develop as a National Guard MP translate directly to those practiced by civilian police forces and security firms, making you a more attractive job candidate than someone without this background.

Job training for Military Police consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and eight to 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and on-the-job instruction, including practice in police methods.

Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications.

Actual MOS assignment may depend on MOS availability.

Serve as dispatcher for the Police, Fire and other University departments. Receive, monitor, prioritize and dispatch information from a variety of sources. Receive and screen incoming departmental telephone calls including 911. Operate Computer Aided Dispatch system and keep information in the system current and accurate. Serve as backup dispatcher for Tippecanoe County Fire and Ambulance service. Must be certified to operate and retrieve confidential information from the Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer terminal. Must obtain certification and re-certify as needed for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). Maintain and update operating manuals and computer databases used in the daily operation of the Telecommunications Center. Serve as general contact for the police Department. Screen visitors and provide general information. Overtime is necessary.

Required:
High School Diploma/GED.
Two years of strong computer or general office experience.
Must have a good working knowledge and high level of proficiency with Windows based operations such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to type with a high level of accuracy.
Able to work in a fast paced environment and ability to perform multiple tasks in a proficient manner.
Must have a demonstrated consistent use of good judgment.
The ability to handle highly confidential information, use discretion at all times and work effectively under stressful situations.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent listening and comprehension skills are required.
Must be able to be assertive when needed; act in a professional manner with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy as needed to provide support to a diverse work group and customer base.
Cognitive map reading ability, and ability to perform multiple tasks in a proficient manner.
Must be able to obtain and hold certifications in Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD).
Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
The ability to work a flexible schedule.

Preferred:
Previous experience with customer service or as a dispatcher is strongly preferred.
Prior knowledge of Police Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) systems is desirable.

Additional Information:
All qualifying applicants WHO ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE MUST be available on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 for the written exam. We will notify you with details if you are to participate. No exceptions will be granted to this date. Applicants who pass the written exam and move forward in the process will be interviewed beginning the week of June 3, 2013.
The schedule for this position consists of rotating twelve hour shifts.
Overtime on an as needed basis; including weekends and at times with minimal notice.
A background check is required for employment in this position.
FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible For Overtime.)
Retirement Eligibility: PERF Contributions Immediately.
