The purpose of this position is to independently perform routine in-shop work involving the disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, assembly and maintenance of mechanical parts of aircraft jet engine components;  perform visual and dimensional examination of parts and components for obvious defects such as nicks, scratches, leaks, corrosion and worn, bent or broken parts and replace or rework damaged parts;  use test equipment and measuring devices and hand and power tools. 

The description of your work experience in your application (OF-612, or other acceptable written format) must clearly demonstrate that you have gained and currently possess the following knowledge, skill, and abilities shown below to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position being filled:

1.  Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Mechanical Parts worker without more than normal supervision.  (This is a Screenout Element.  Screenout elements are the critical knowledge, skills and abilities that are essential for satisfactory job performance.  Applicants must receive a minimum of two points on the screenout element to be deemed eligible for the position.)

2.  Knowledge of the assembly, disassembly, cleaning, repair, testing, and inspection of mechanical parts of aircraft jet engine components and ground support equipment.

3.  Ability to use and maintain precision measuring instruments, hand and power tools and equipment.

4.  Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, technical orders, and blueprint reading.

Possession of an Airframe and Powerplant License (A&P).  (Note: A copy of the front and back of the A&P license MUST be submitted with your application package).

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS

This is a drug testing designated position.  The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment and participation in random drug testing.

May be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc.

The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle.  An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required.

Appointment is contingent upon passing a physical examination.

Physical Demands:  Frequently handles objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally objects weighing up to 70 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.  Required to lift, reach, bend, walk, pull, push, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time.  Required to reach and work in awkward or cramped positions when placing items in test stands.

Working Environment:  Work is performed in clean, well lighted, and well-ventilated areas.  Frequently exposed to loud noise from the movement of machinery and test equipment, to the possibility of cyst, burns, strains, electrical shock, and abrasions from handling equipment or from moving parts of machinery; and to unpleasant conditions from dirt, dust, solvents, fuel, toxic fumes, grease and gases.  Floor surfaces may be wet, oily, or slippery.  Various protective devices such as ear plugs, face shields, dust mask, gloves, safety shoes, and safety glasses are used.

Category 2, Highly Qualified: Candidates in this category possess good skills and experience above the minimum experience requirements for the position of Aircraft Mechanical Parts Worker.  

Category 3, Qualified: Candidates in this category meet the minimum specialized experience or A&P requirements for the position of Aircraft Mechanical Parts Worker .
