U.S. Citizenship and Background InvestigationProbationary periodPermanent, seasonal employment (October - April)UniformValid driver's licenseYou will provide routine care for chinook salmon and steelhead at a major fish hatchery, deciding what care is required or following special instructions, and performing various other duties in support of the program. Major duties include:
Caring for brookstock fish, spawning, eggs, fry and feeding fish throughout the rearing cycle;Monitoring the appearance and behavior of fish for changes indicative of disease, discontent, or environmental distress, and remedying or reporting the problem;Administering preventive or curative treatment for fish diseases;Recording, computing and summarizing data on fish, such as size, weight, age, sex, mortalities and quantities and formulas of food fed;Maintaining equipment and fish culture facilities, including cleaning tanks, raceways, and ponds.The work is primarily performed outdoors under all weather conditions, requires driving motor vehicles on public roads, and involves prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, climbing and lifting items up to 50 pounds (such as feed bags). May include working on weekends and holidays.
If selected at the WG-4 grade level, you will perform the same kinds of duties described above, but under closer supervision and training will be provided for progression to the full performance level.

Although there is no specific amount of training or experience required, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience or training described in your resume that you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work of this animal caretaker position at a fish production facility without more than normal supervision.
