Duties: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties will be assigned and this Job Description will be changed from time to time by the Company. Responsibilities and procedures may be further described in a Policies and Procedures Manual.Medical Billing & Collection Clerical Tasks Using Medical Practice software will assist with the responsibility of filing medical claims and statements for all third-party payers, including insurance companies, PPOs, HMOs, Medicare, Medi-Cal, CHAMPUS/Tricare, workers? compensation carriers, and other payers.Learns and becomes user of Medical Practice Software billing and collection system, able to retrieve patient account information.Responsible for filing and retrieving medical billing documents, such as EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) and insurance company correspondence.Responsible for assembling medical claims and documentation for mailing to insurance companies.Prepares and mails appropriate forms to payers and/or patients at the direction of Billing & Collection Team Members and Team Leaders.Becomes familiar with the EOB. Learns to identify the patient name, date of service, amounts billed and amounts paid from EOBs and related payer documentation.Post refund requests and disputes in account and disburse paper work to the appropriate staff.Process correspondence and requests from payers. Do not allow yourself to become delinquent in this important task; request assistance via e-mail or memo from the Team Leader if you find yourself behind.Post all necessary notations on accounts. Documentation in "Comments" and "Reminders" section of accounts is critical and mandatory.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS Performance measured by productivity, including without limitation aging, days outstanding, level of write-offs and timeliness of dropping bills/statements and posting payments after receipt of EOBs/checks.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or G.E.D. 2 - 3 years experience in medical billing and/or collections and/or coding. EXPERIENCE IN ANESTHESIA BILLING IS A PLUS.PATIENT SERVICE, ATTITUDE AND LANGUAGE SKILLS Must have superior patient service attitude and skills. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, using proper grammar and spelling. Excellent telephone skills required. Excellent attitude required.MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTER SKILLS Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Must have ability to add and subtract with near perfect accuracy, using calculators, spreadsheets, computers and/or practice management/billing system. Must be able to learn basic functions necessary to perform the duties of a B&C Clerk on Centricity / Intergy (or other) computer system within a reasonable time after training (no more than 30 days).REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding and to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to identify problems and solve them with a minimum of supervision.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Any course certificates in healthcare billing, coding and/or collections are preferred but not required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be self-motivated and a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision. Employees at the Company?s Corporate Office in Monterey generally work in cubicles that are in relative close proximity, and employees must be able to concentrate with a moderate amount of distraction and noise.
