The Process Safety Specialist is responsible for the development, maintenance, and execution of process safety related programs which are designed to ensure: process safety risks are effectively managed and site program requirements conform to regulatory requirements. The position requires troubleshooting and problem solving skills, strong technical writing skills, coordination and communication of cross-site efforts and knowledge sharing within the company. In addition, this position is responsible for developing innovative strategies driving the development of a zero defects culture.

Function as the Site Lead and Program Owner for Process Safety Management (PSM).Provide leadership or ownership for all fourteen of OSHA’s PSM program elements.Develop and maintain Process Safety Management Performance Standards.Provide process safety expertise and support.Participate and support facility PSM audits.Review technical standards with respect to H&S risk management content.Lead, participate and support Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis.Assist site operational areas with PSM related needs such as consulting on equipment, controls, systems and resourcing investigations having PSM implications.Serve as site liaison to corporate PSM team.Assist in development, implementation and execution of the site’s safety and health tools, systems and processes which are designed to drive improved performance and achieve 10,000% compliance. Support Safety and Health team members and perform additional safety duties as requested such as: leading self assessments, area safety inspections or Compliance System Owner (CSO) program health checks, etc.Conduct regulatory research and provide input, as needed, during capital and expense project: planning, development and implementation. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule forms.Willingness to make decisionsExhibits sound and accurate judgment; supports and explains reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; makes timely decisions.Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.Takes independent actions and calculated risks; asks for and offers help when needed.

REQUIRED:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering, or Safety & Health Field, or 5 years of process safety experience.Reading, analyzing, and interpreting common scientific and technical journals, regulations, and legal documents. Experience performing essential calculations: percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Working knowledge and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometryMicrosoft Office Suite including Excel (spreadsheet creation/ editing, pivot tables, formula creation, etc.)Experience with various contemporary risk assessment tools.

Experience Preferred:

PHA & LOPA qualified facilitatorResponding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Presenting information to hourly employees, senior management, and public groupsWorking experience with related PSM regulations.
