SUMMARY
First point of contact to assist internal and external customers. Provides customer service pertaining to development and permitting processes and procedures. Responds to inquiries both on the telephone and at a public counter based on customers’ needs. Coordinates construction related requests. Provides extensive public contact requiring considerable tact and persuasion, particularly when dealing with often irate or distraught customers. Position is also responsible for having a wide variety of knowledge of the public sector in general.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Issues new and replacement access badges city-wide for current and new employees, volunteers, and visitors to city hall
- Greets visitors and provide direction to appropriate department within City Hall or the Civic Center Complex based on their purpose of visit
- Assists customers with requests for information over the phone and in person. Communicates with the general public, other city employees, management, and contractors in order to explain department policies and procedures
- Prepares, updates, and maintains a variety of correspondence, routine reports, invoices, records, and files
- Contacts applicants regarding project status, and answers questions from the general public regarding development or construction applications; provides information resources such as process guides, maps and instructions to access web site
- Reviews applications, development related plans and supporting documentation for overall adherence to the Municipal Code. Processes construction related permits including single family tract homes and utility permits. Enters permit data into electronic tracking system, calculate fees, review, and issue permits ensuring accuracy of data
- Monitors, retrieves, and schedules building and fire protection inspection requests from request line or from in person customers. Coordinates utility clearances for contractors and building inspectors
- Performs general clerical duties, which including answering phones, taking messages, and filing records
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
