SUMMARY

Works with the Office of the Judges of the Circuit Court of the City of Lynchburg to prepare research memoranda on points of law as assigned by the Judges. Position is for a minimum of one year and is expected to be performed in the facilities of the Circuit Court of the City of Lynchburg, Virginia, unless otherwise directed or allowed. Position is considered a City of Lynchburg “hourly” position and includes medical benefits. Start date on or around August 1, 2015. Salary in the mid-forties.

Essential Duties:


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:


  • Prepares research memoranda on points of law in response to assignments made by the Judges of the Circuit Court of the City of Lynchburg;

  • Researches legal questions on both the civil and criminal dockets arising from pending cases;

  • Provides assistance in administrative matters and other functions generally performed by a law clerk;

  • Interacts effectively with chambers staff, court personnel, litigants and the general public.


Minimum Education and Experience Required:


Requires award of JD (juris doctor) degree and demonstrated ability to conduct legal research. Requires a high degree of proficiency in legal research, composition, communication and MS Word. Must commit to one year assignment.
