GENERAL SUMMARY
The Internews Center for Innovation and Learning (the Center) is currently seeking interns. The selected candidates would need to be available at least two days a week. This is an unpaid position that can be based in the Washington, D.C. office or remotely, and will provide the intern with an opportunity to gain exposure to overseas research projects, innovation initiatives, and data analysis. This internship will support the redesigned CrowdGlobe website, the Center’s knowledge base on crowdsourced mapping deployments, research, and tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and update the Center¹s website Crowdglobe.net
- Search for ongoing crowdsourcing mapping projects online and review them
- Compile monthly updates on new projects and interesting issues related to crowdsourced mapping
- Collect and review academic research studies on crowdsourced mapping
- Research potentially new project initiatives in the field of crowdsourced mapping
- Research and aggregate blogs, media articles, reports and other documentation on crowdsourced mapping
- Write monthly blog posts on crowdsourced mapping to be published in the Internews Center for Innovation and Learning website
- Compile a database of already existing projects contained in the Crowdglobe.net website
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA in related field or current master’s degree student
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Strong Microsoft office skills and previous experience with social media and blogging platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress)
- The ability to multi-task and work on projects independently
- Interest and passion in ICT4D, technology, and the role of information in development
- Previous experience with graphic design, website design, infographics and videography a significant asset
