SUMMARY


The Technical Coordinator, Early Childhood Development (ECD) & Nutrition will be part of ChildFund International’s Child & Youth Development and Protection team. Under the direction of the Senior Advisor, ECD, s/he will coordinate technical processes related to program development and portfolio management. The Technical Coordinator, a member of the Program Development Division, will collaborative with international, regional and field-based colleagues in support of program design, implementation, evaluation and learning in line with the organizational and life stage theories of change. ChildFund International has structured its programming along the life stages of child/youth development. Life Stage (LS) 1 includes infants and young children, from conception to age 5, Life Stage 2 includes children and young adolescents, ages 6 to 14, while Life Stage 3’s focus is on programming for youth, ages 15 to 24.


Program Development


  • Assists the development of conceptual leadership on key topics related to ChildFund’s theories of change, including guidance documents related to ECD and nutrition.

  • Assists LS team in enhancing staff and partner learning in ECD, utilizing experiential adult learning methods, processes, and tools.

  • Collaborate with team members for integration of ECD and nutrition within child protection, health, youth, education, and livelihoods programing.

  • As needed, travel to national offices to support staff and local partners in implementing quality, integrated ECD programming through: proposal development, program startup, training, implementation and assessment.

Resource Mobilization and Management


  • Supports the development of and maintains proposal and concept note rosters for team.

  • Proactively assists in the identification of opportunities for expanded program portfolio, including multi-year and diversified funding sources.

  • In coordination with the CYDP and Business Development teams, drafts capacity statements, past performance references.

  • Assists in the reviews of technical documents and ChildFund programs to inform go/no go decisions, problem analysis, partnering and staffing decisions

  • Helps to identify and cultivate technical donors within public and private sectors;

External Representation and Partnership Development


  • Assists in the development of donor cultivation plan and on occasion meets with donors to present ChildFund programs and approaches in service of relationship manager cultivation strategies

  • As needed, serves representation functions for the organization, including attending critical industry events, networking and advocacy functions in support of organizational profile and building ChildFund’s understanding of evidence based practice for deprived, excluded and vulnerable children.

Experience Required


  • A minimum of 3 years of international experience in development and/or emergency contexts related to multiple areas of community-based early childhood development (i.e. parenting, OVC/ HIV and AIDs, integration with health, child protection, education and/or livelihoods);

  • Having lived and worked in a developing country context

  • Demonstrated ability to provide ECD technical assistance, guidance, and coaching to international and field-based implementing staff and partners.

  • Experience with qualitative participatory inquiry methods and mixed methods research preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of USG and other donors (i.e. USAID, DOL, State, DFID, AUSAID, EC, etc.) multilateral, foundations, and other institutions’ grant making initiatives

  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work well under time constraints and meet deadlines.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, team player, self-starter and results-oriented individual.

  • Outstanding writing skills in English

  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

  • Language proficiency in more than one of ChildFund International’s working languages required (English with French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese).

  • Strong computer skills, with familiarity in using Microsoft Office suite applications (particularly Word and PowerPoint).

  • Significant Travel outside of the US required (up to 40%)

  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US. No employer sponsorship is available.

EDUCATION


  • Bachelor degree required/Master’s degree strongly preferred in a field related to early childhood development (international development, child development, nutrition, community development, social work, psychology, education, sociology, anthropology, public health, etc.)
