    Contact Representatives (Information Case Technicians) affect the Agency’s mission through direct and service to the public. This includes speaking with beneficiaries about their rights under the Social Security laws, gathering facts and evidence to establish eligibility for benefits, and using state-of-the-art computer technology to access and update information about claims.

    LOCATION: SSA, Office of Disability Adjudication and Review, The Symphony Center, 1010 Park Avenue, Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21201.


    NOTE: This position is a Full Time Permanent Position.

    Contact Representatives ( Information Case Technician) is responsible for dispensing

    information to the public, in person and/or telephonically, explaining the

    legal provisions, regulations and procedural requirements for obtaining

    benefits under the Social Security program as they relate to a specific case and/or

    explaining the application of regulatory provisions and the bases for the

    Agency’s determinations in individual cases.

    GS-5 : One year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-4 level. Specialized experience includes experience dealing with customers in person or on the telephone; responding to customer inquiries; knowledge of legal, medical and technical terminology; skill in effectively communicating policy and procedural matters to a wide range of individuals; operation a personal computer, software and related equipment .


    G S-6 : One year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience includes experience dealing with customers in person or on the telephone; responding to customer inquiries about benefits or other entitlements; the use of legal, medical and technical terminology; skill in effectively communicating policy and procedural matters to a wide range of individuals; operation a personal computer, software and related equipment.


    Substituting Education


    If you have no general or specialized experience, you may be able to qualify for this position based solely on your education as indicated below:


    For GS-5 : Completion of a four-year degree from an accredited college or university can be substituted for the GS-5 Specialized Experience requiremnts. If you are using education as a substitute for experience, you must provide copies of all applicable college transcripts.

    TYPING PROFICIENCY : Individuals who meet the experience requirements must be able to type 40 words per minute.
