Coordinate parent involvement and education in various school programs and other activities in order to improve the academic success of categorically funded students per the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act.
Ensure that equity of opportunity and access to educational programs and other activities are attainable to all categorically funded students.
This position will support African-American students and families at the High School level.
Examples of Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assist parents in becoming advocates for categorically funded students.
Coordinate and facilitate the distribution of information and services to categorically funded students with respect to vocational opportunities, college visits, university applications, scholarship applications.
Assist with the organization of Career Days, vocational/educational field trips, clubs and other activities and events.
Assist with the organization of parent orientation and provide informational meetings.
Assist school personnel and administration in translating and communicating with parents of categorically funded students.
Assist with the organization and implementation of cross-age tutoring and student-to-student mentor programs to increase articulation between levels and to cultivate the skills and strengths of categorically funded students.
Assist in the designing of the site intervention plan for categorically funded students.
Participate in Student Success Team (SST) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings as assigned to support categorically funded students.
Serve as an intermediary between home and school providing access to parents whose primary language is other than English to English only school services and information.
Assist with the organization of parent orientation and information meetings.
Assist in developing leadership skills in categorically funded students and their parents.
Assist school staffs and administration in communicating parents of categorically funded students.
Work as a member of a team composed of other outreach workers, other school staff and community members; assist in the designing of each school’s intervention plan for categorically funded students.
Provide direct services to categorically funded students as needs arise in the form of guidance, advocacy, crisis intervention, and resource facilitation.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient experience to perform above duties. A typical qualifying entrance background is any combination equivalent to completion of two years of training at an accredited college or university with major work in Social Sciences or related field or two years experience working in a position involving extensive public contact.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Incumbent will be involved in field work which requires travel in personal vehicle to various sites.
Bilingual Spanish preferred.
