General Position Overview

The School Receptionist will assist in providing a smooth daily operation of the school by working directly with the Business Operations Manager, school leader, staff, students, and parents of KIPP New Orleans Schools. The School Receptionist should also be friendly and able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment. This position requires an individual who believes deeply in the mission and values of KIPP New Orleans Schools.

KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) is building an influential network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools that empower students with the knowledge and character traits to be lifelong learners and leaders. KNOS operates ten high-performing schools on eight campuses, serving roughly 4,500 of our city’s highest-needs students. Over the next several years, we aim to ultimately grow to twelve schools, five primary, five middle and two high schools.


With rigorous academics, innovative teaching, and a motivating learning environment, we are working to ensure that all of our students are prepared for college and beyond. Although KIPP teachers come from a diverse set of backgrounds, they all share the common goal of student success. KIPP teachers display a “whatever it takes” attitude during the school day and are available after school hours by cell phone. KIPP New Orleans Schools embrace the spirit of our city with athletics, band, visual arts, or other fine arts available at every school.


KIPP New Orleans Schools is associated with the national KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Network which recruits and trains school leaders to open KIPP schools across the country. The KIPP network is rapidly growing. There are currently 183 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving 70,000 students.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Manage phone calls to families regarding after-school activities, absences, tardies, school closures and school events

  • Greet, welcome and assist all staff, students, parents, community members, callers and visitors to the school.

  • Answer phones, provide information, take and deliver messages and direct callers to appropriate individual. Assist visitors, answer inquiries, provide information and direct to appropriate school areas.

  • Monitor building visitors, visitor sign-in procedures and building activities including crisis situations such as building evacuations, lockdowns, emergency situations and safety procedures. May initiate crisis procedures in the administrator’s absence with direction from appropriate

  • Orders supplies for school and teachers as needed and anticipates orders that need to be made.

  • Participates in all staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide projects.

  • Assists in coordinating field trips, parent nights, and other special events

Compensation

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as employer retirement contribution, is included.
