Chemonics’ Latin America and Caribbean regional business unit is recruiting for an operations manager. The position will support operations of the growing and dynamic LAC region, while also providing support to LAC’s regional projects as needed. Our regional portfolio includes projects in a wide range of technical sectors, including democracy and governance, environment and natural resources, agriculture and food security, and economic growth, among others. The Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring sound management principles and tools are employed in the operations of the regional business unit and in the implementation of its work, working closely with the operations team and the senior vice president to develop and implement staff satisfaction and professional development initiatives, support the management of the region’s projects, recruit and hire personnel, manage the region’s corporate budget, and plan teambuilding activities. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
• Improve operational systems, processes and policies in support of the region"s goals – specifically, support management reporting, information flow and management, and business process and organizational planning
• Contribute to long-term planning, including those initiatives geared toward operational and staff excellence
• Assist in the recruitment of home-office staff
• Manage the timely execution of the region"s administration as well as provide support to the senior vice president
• Manage, track, and forecast regional staffing and operations budgets
• Effectively communicate and provide clarifying guidance to staff on corporate priorities, policies and practices
• Facilitate the use of tools and systems required for the planning, implementation, tracking, reporting, and quality control for the region
• Liaise effectively with other operations teams on resourcing, cost savings, and best practices
• Analyze and align staff resources across regional portfolio of projects
• Support the professional development of staff by promoting relevant training and career advancing opportunities
• Participates and contributes to proposal development
• Supports project startups and closeouts
Qualifications:
• Bachelor"s degree in international development or relevant technical; master"s degree in international development or related field preferred
• Minimum three years of administrative work experience or relevant work experience in project management
• Strong administrative skills, word processing abilities, knowledge of MS Office applications, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, and other initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings
• Strong writing and interpersonal skills
• Knowledgeable of USAID or international development organizations
• Ability and willingness to travel and work overseas a minimum four to eight weeks per year
• Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Spanish fluency required
