Chemonics seeks a project manager for the Southern Africa region to serve on one or two of our active projects, which cover eight countries and a range of technical areas. Although the candidate may serve on a variety of projects, we are seeking candidates with a strong education background. In addition to the qualifications in the standard position description (please see below), the successful candidate will have a proven track record of versatility, leadership, and integrity and will display the enthusiasm needed to manage our portfolio project. The PMU Manager will serve as part of a three- to four-person team tasked with managing and providing support to project management and proposal development efforts in the Southern Africa region. Successful candidates will bring relevant and extensive USAID project management experience. Candidates should demonstrate skills in strategic thinking and resourcing, and be highly adept at establishing, building, and maintaining interpersonal relationships with internal staff, clients, and partners. The project manager assumes a pivotal position on the project management team. Ideal candidates demonstrate a clear understanding of contract terms, project plans and strategies, and budgeting procedures. Responsibilities include:
• Liaise closely with field office staff and client counterparts
• Advance in staff supervision and management responsibility
• Conduct short-term field assignments independently
• Undertake increasingly complex technical and new business assignments
• Manage special projects as requested
Qualifications:
• Bachelor"s degree in international development or relevant technical field, or bachelor"s degree with relevant work experience required; Advanced degree a plus
• Minimum three years of relevant program management experience with experience in an international development context a plus
• Two years of contract management and/or proposal preparation experience preferred
• Mastery of critical project management skills, including budget management, contractual compliance, client relations and knowledge of client, and personnel management.
• Strong writing and interpersonal skills
• Strong diplomatic skills and demonstrates history of good client relations
• Ability and willingness to travel and work overseas a minimum four to six weeks per year
• Experience in Southern Africa a plus
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• Proficiency in relevant foreign language preferred
