Under the direction of the Senior QI Advisor, the Quality Improvement (QI) Advisor will work closely with ICAP’s Health Systems Strategies team to plan, implement, and evaluate QI training, capacity-building and technical assistance projects in PEPFAR priority countries.
This position is grant funded.

Major Accountabilities
- Support QI-related training and technical assistance activities, including but not limited to: assisting with the design, delivery and management of QI training and capacity building initiatives.
- Assist in strategic planning, including the development and implementation of QI training needs assessments, as well as ongoing reviews and evaluation of training activities.
- Support the Clinical & Training Unit and the Health Systems Strategies team with the development, preparation and evaluation of training materials (learning objectives, curricula, lesson plans, slide sets, case studies, etc.).
- Provide hands-on support to both face-to-face training and distance education projects, including but not limited to conducting training sessions, webinars, and other QI projects.
- Provide technical assistance and implementation support to QI projects (including QI Collaboratives and other QI initiatives) in low-resource settings, largely in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Document QI training and technical assistance activities and help to produce reports.
- Liaise with other teams within ICAP (including but not limited to the NY-based Strategic Information Unit and Implementation Unit and ICAP country teams as appropriate) and within the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements
- Requires approximately one (1) week per year of domestic travel (within the United States) to meetings and trainings
- Requires approximately 30% time of international travel (involving multiple individual trips) to program countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and/or South East Asia
Education
- Advanced degree (MD, RN, PhD, MPH) in Medicine, Public Health, Nursing or related field
Experience, Skills & Minimum Required Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience and demonstrated expertise in the implementation of health programs in low-resource international settings
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant QI activities in low-resource settings
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant adult education and/or training experience
- Experience and/or exposure to and proficiency in: quality improvement, education, training, and/or global health
- Demonstrated experience in synthesizing and disseminating QI best practices and lessons learned to government officials, implementers and key stakeholders
- Excellent English-language verbal and written communications skills
- Demonstrated talent in writing technical content and training materials
- Experience working with complex programs involving short deadlines and multiple tasks, in coordination with multiple partners to achieve program results
Experience, Skills & Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in global HIV/AIDS programs strongly preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in the techniques of system design, project management, quality improvement and outcomes
- Demonstrated proficiency in the design, delivery and evaluation of competency-based training
- Experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of distance education
- Fluency in French and/or Portuguese
