JOB SUMMARY:
The Communications Associate is an integral member of the Communications & Marketing team and External Relations Division. He/She is responsible for leading a dynamic and engaging social media presence and supporting the implementation of communications and marketing activities, including online engagement, media relations, conferences/events, fundraising efforts, and limited administrative activities. He/She will have significant experience in social media platforms, tools and analytics and knowledge about global reproductive health issues.
This is a position for a professional with a passion for global women’s health who is also interested in communications and/or marketing as a career, and looking to work in a team-oriented, non-profit environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Media
- Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging social media presence for EngenderHealth. This includes developing an effective social media strategy, developing an editorial calendar, and creating content for and maintaining and monitoring all social media platforms.
- Increase the number of supporters and level of engagement on social media channels.
- Develop and implement social media campaigns related to broader communications and fundraising strategies/activities, in collaboration with team members.
- Engage and build relationships with other influential reproductive health Twitter and Facebook users and bloggers.
- Analyze data and/or results from social media efforts using various analytic software/tools.
- Keep informed about current standards, best practices, and trends in social media.
Media Relations
- Conduct media research and pitching to targeted journalists to support specific PR campaigns, and prepare relevant documents, e.g., information packets, reports, etc., for the media.
- Conduct media monitoring, including tracking relevant media coverage and conducting simple media analyses to share with colleagues at EngenderHealth.
- Conduct research, compile summaries, and gather data to support Communications & Marketing activities.
General Web/Intranet
- In coordination with the Web Producer, update EngenderHealth website, including the homepage and media center.
Conferences/Events
- Plan and organize special meetings and/or events, including ensuring a robust presence for the organization at major conferences.
- Coordinate logistics and plan booth presence at meetings and conferences, including registration, materials management, and booth staffing.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of three years of experience in communications especially in social media and public relations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability and creativity to prioritize, and flexibility to adjust workload, meet deadlines, juggle multiple assignments, and work in a dynamic, flexible environment.
- Ability to work independently, but also strong interpersonal skills and desire to work effectively in an open, collaborative team environment.
- Deep knowledge of social media strategies and platforms, especially Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, and Instagram, with a strong sense of different community behaviors and experience.
- Proven track record with social media projects from inception to completion.
- Solid understanding of Google Analytics and social media tracking and listening tools.
- Solid understanding of how to analyze campaign effectiveness and adapt campaigns to achieve goals.
- Solid understanding of Content Management Systems (CMS) and basic understanding of HTML.
- Excellent attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
- Must be comfortable and respectful of EngenderHealth’s programming that promotes women’s rights, gender equality, sexual diversity and LGBTQ rights.
- Flexible, proactive in taking on assignments and responsibilities, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to speak French desirable.
- Understanding of the field of global health; issue knowledge of sexual and reproductive health desirable.
