Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice or related field and five (5) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the examples of work.

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice or related field and three (3) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the examples of work.


Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.


Nature of Work:


Under general supervision of a Community Services Supervisor, the Drug Court Coordinator will provide oversight and program coordination for the Olmsted County Drug Court Team. In addition to the coordination responsibilities this position will also have intermittent case management responsibilities for clients participating in the Drug Court Program. The Drug Court Coordinator will develop, coordinate, and support activities related to the operations of a Drug Court in Olmsted County. Primary responsibilities will include monitoring contracts, evaluating budgets, gathering and reporting data, developing programming, maintaining file information, and coordinating Drug Court Team meetings and initiatives. The work involves the performance of extensive planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring the activities of the Drug Court. This position works collaboratively with the Drug Court Team on a wide range of organizational issues such as operational efficiency and internal and external quality assurance. This position monitors and coordinates the case management services within Olmsted County. Position may take part in statewide work groups and/or team meeting to promote best practices, efficiency, and effective operations on a system wide basis.


Examples of Work:


  • Assists with development and implementation of administrative policies and procedures

  • Works with the Drug Court Team and the Drug Court Screening Team to establish and follow practices and guidelines to include a Drug Court Manual and Memorandums of Understanding

  • Identifies and provides for training needs of the Drug Court Team, including treatment providers and team members

  • Coordinates program specific services between clients and providers to include therapy, treatment, and other programming based on client need

  • Establishes and maintains communication and collaborative relationships with the Drug Court Team, internal and external stakeholders

  • Performs administrative tasks including the arrangement, coordination and facilitation of Drug Court meetings, identifying and writing grant proposals for drug court funding, collecting, maintaining and reporting data and outcomes, and creating and revising written materials, tools or forms to support program policy

  • Completes verbal and written reports for Drug Court Team and stakeholders

  • Provides oversight and consultation of other Drug Court Staff as it relates to supervision of complex cases

  • Plans, implements, administers and monitors the day to day activities of the Olmsted County Drug Court and evaluates processed for the program

  • Directs and maintains an accounting and auditing system with respect to grant funds and coordinates expenditures

  • Attends and participates in case staffing and court hearings, conferences, meetings and committees as the Drug Court representative


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of how drug courts are organized and function

  • Thorough knowledge of the use of community resources

  • Thorough knowledge of techniques of correctional counseling including motivational interviewing and case planning and cognitive-behavioral interventions

  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of criminal justice system

  • Considerable knowledge of the habits and actions of people with alcohol and other drug addictions

  • Knowledge of Minnesota Statutes, court rules and policies and generally accepted professional guidelines and procedures

  • Knowledge of programs and resources available for chemical dependency treatment and drug court ancillary services

  • Knowledge of substance abuse disorders

  • Knowledge of individual and group therapies/processes

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing time effectively

  • Ability to present complicated situations clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences

  • Ability to motivate individuals and groups to achieve goals

  • Ability to plan and organize work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing

  • Ability to deal with people tactfully

  • Ability to lead and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of professionals toward common objectives

  • Ability to establish rapport with people experiencing alcohol and other drug problems and/or mental health issues

Some standing is required and objects of usually no more than ten (10) pounds need to be lifted, carried or pushed. Adverse movements such as stooping, kneeling or crouching are often required. Simultaneous/repetitive use of both hands is required for writing and data entry. Excellent sensory skills are important (sight, hearing and speech) as well as ability to communicate effectively.
