Assists the public with using computers, printers and copiers to retrieve data of recorded instruments. Proofreads CD’s
and microfilm copies for clarity. Operates scanning equipment, personal computer and cash register to process land
transactions. Administers Oath of Office to notaries and appointees. Records documents pertaining to land transactions
after calculating and collecting the appropriate fees. Prepares and issues various licenses. Receives, sorts and distributes
the mail for the office. Lifts files and documents. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Level II – Two (2) years of clerical experience, one (1) year of which must have included document-
processing experience, including a requirement for examining, reviewing, recording, indexing, entering
data and verifying document data.
Level III – Two (2) years of document-processing experience, one (1) year of which included the
requirement for examining, reviewing, recording, verifying and indexing documents for recordation
purposes and involved the requirement to interpret laws, rules and regulations, be familiar with court or
legal terminology, and provide customer service at the Maryland Judiciary.
Preferred: Prior cashiering experience desired. At least one year of experience in document recordation and
examination for purposes that involved the requirement to interpret laws and rules.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to learn and apply relevant legal terminology, policies, procedures, regulations and codes. Ability
to use basic arithmetic calculations, including discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability to identify and
transcribe relevant information. Ability to communicate in an effective, patient, and tactful manner with customers and
co-workers. Ability to verify comments and notations and record essential information. Ability to interpret documents and
to apply job related terminology. Ability to apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations and laws as required. Ability to
operate standard office equipment. Ability to operate a personal computer and type 35 wpm net as determined by a
successful completion of a typing or alphanumeric data entry test. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. using proper lifting techniques. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.
