Organization: UN Children"s Fund
Country: United States of America
Closing date: 29 Jun 2015
Background:
Children are particularly vulnerable to poverty, as well as to many of the drivers of child poverty including climate change. UNICEF has placed child poverty as one of the core elements to the outcomes for Social Inclusion in its 2014-2017 Strategic Plan. This raised profile for child poverty coincides with improvements in the approach to measuring child poverty based on multiple-deprivations and monetary poverty approaches.
The fundamental goal of UNICEF’s work on child poverty at the country level is to ensure child poverty is on the national agenda, and to help build the appropriate policy responses to reduce the risk of poverty and to address poverty. To achieve this, UNICEF’s work in the field must be based on a strategic consideration of the types of work that would achieve these goals.
Towards this, and as part of our compact across many regions, we are working to create a guide to implementing the SDG on child poverty. A separate consultancy has been created to undertake substantive support towards this goal that is expected to be between 30 to 40 pages.
