How do you halve the time and cost it takes to get cash to families after a disaster How do you vaccinate the 22 million children who are not being reached by current programs How do you shape social norms to reduce the violence experienced by women and children


It"s your job to choose the great challenges that we should focus on addressing, and lead the organization to design solutions. To make breakthroughs that will reshape the way aid is delivered, not just within IRC, but across the industry and improve the lives of millions of the most disadvantaged people in places affected by war and disaster.


You"re role will be to shape a new team within IRC that will be responsible for designing interventions and delivery models that reach more people and make a bigger difference to their lives. You will have expertise in innovation methods – in particular, designing programs based on understanding how clients behave, and rapid prototyping – and a passion for applying your knowledge to improve services in places experiencing conflict and disaster.


Your initial focus will be to pilot ways of designing and testing programs that draw on the best innovation methods within and beyond humanitarian and development practice. Based on this, you will develop an IRC method and process for innovation, and begin work on developing a pipeline of innovation projects. You"ll help us build a world-class network of supporters and experts and be part of a team that will raise funding for projects.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop an IRC innovation method and process – drawing on best innovation methods and testing them out in a small number of pilots

  • Shape and lead teams to develop and test solutions

  • Support existing innovation projects on cash delivery in emergencies, last-mile vaccinations, social norms and violence.

  • Build partnerships and relationships within and outside IRC that can harness knowledge, skills and resources

  • Build a pipeline of innovation projects

  • Secure core and project-based funding

  • Document and disseminate learning along the way

Job Profile


We are looking for people with the following skills and experience:


  • Passion for developing solutions in the world"s most challenging places experiencing conflict or disaster and stamina for the task at hand

  • Proven track record in using design or innovation methods.

  • Superb analytical and problem solving skills

  • Ability to lead and bring coherence to diverse teams to solve complex problems

  • Impressive communication, interpersonal and networking skills

Preferred Additional Requirements


  • Knowledge of French or Arabic

  • Project management qualification

Working Environment:


  • Standard office work environment


  • Preference for NY but negotiable




  • Up to 40% travel as needed
