The Fresno County Department of Social Services has excellent career opportunities for individuals who are interested in the Social Services field. Eligibility Workers are responsible for determining initial and continuing eligibility for Social Services programs. Due to the nature of the position, candidates must possess a high degree of understanding, maturity and good judgment when dealing with clients.
Eligibility Workers may be required to work in rural areas throughout Fresno County; may be required to work shifts including evenings and/or weekends as necessary; and may be required to undergo and pass a background/live scan fingerprint check.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions in other County departments as they occur. Individuals selected for extra help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
Positions in this classification are in MEDICAL GROUP I – Light Physical Activity . This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

Ensures correct benefit levels to maintain adequate control of a variety of changes and referrals. Determines special needs; computes amount of authorized benefit levels; and coordinates information with companion cases. Refers applicants or recipients to other agencies for additional financial support.
Refers cases for fraud investigation as necessary. Assists in compilation of documentation and information for appeals and fair hearings. Prepares letters, forms, and case narratives; and completes surveys for local and state agencies as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Eligibility Worker I applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:
OPTION 1 :
Education : Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
License : Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
OPTION 2 :
Education : Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
AND
Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience determining eligibility for loans, financial assistance, unemployment benefits, veterans’ benefits, publicly or privately financed health, counseling, or social services.
License : Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
OPTION 3 :
Experience : Two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience determining eligibility for loans, financial assistance, unemployment benefits, veterans’ benefits, publicly or privately financed health, counseling, or social services.
License : Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
