POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Assesses incidents of child abuse or neglect through professional forensic child interviewing and evidence gathering techniques. Completes detailed written reports documenting assessment. Assists in developing treatment recommendations with CARES’ Medical Team. Provides testimony in legal proceedings as required by subpoena. Fosters a coordinated, multidisciplinary response to child abuse using extensive knowledge of child development. Integrates current research in the field of child abuse assessment into CARES process. Demonstrates strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree or extensive experience in child welfare/abuse; Background in working with children and families who have been affected by abuse; Demonstrate mature judgment, emotional stability and integrity; Work with people in a diplomatic and tactful manner, utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills; Ability to conduct some travel.; and Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
Master’s Degree or equivalent in Child Development, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related field; and Background in interviewing children and families, and in the assessment of cases where allegations of abuse and/or neglect have been made.

Must be able to tolerate a high stress environment. Must be able to travel from room to room. Occasional light lifting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Implementation of exams/interviews through professional interviewing and
evidence gathering techniques. Coordinates with the examiner who is
responsible for the medical evaluation.
• Ensures that each patient is adequately assessed and that the assessment
is clearly documented. Ensures that accurate patient records are
maintained and confidentiality policies are met.
• Integrates basic principles, concepts, technologies, and current research in
the field of child abuse assessment into the Cares Program.
• Monitors the progress of the child and family according to their “plan”;
conducts periodic re-interviews and assessments when necessary.
• Consults with physicians and hospital staff (Klamath Falls and Lakeview) to
increase everyone’s ability to respond effectively to child abuse cases in a
multi-disciplinary manner. Fosters and maintains a working relationship
with health care and social service professionals in both communities.
• Maintains a positive image of the Cares Program within Sky Lakes
Medical Center, Lake District Hospital, Lake County and Klamath County,
and the communities through participation in professional organizations,
educational programs and community projects.
• Compliance with policies and procedures: is knowledgeable of, and is in
compliance with, the Cares Program policies and procedures.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary team planning.
• Participates in Peer Review as provided.
• Testifies in court as required by a subpoena.
• Reviews literature in the field, attends training and consultations to
maintain professionalism.
• Listens and attempts to resolve concerns of patients, families and staff,
including physicians.
• Provide patient care and performs tasks using job skills and growth and
develop knowledge specific to the patients age and/or developmental level.
• Assesses physical needs and functional status of the patient in order to
provide patient care.
