This position receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, answers routine questions from clients and client family members concerning court dates, status of the case, explains letters, court orders or other legal documents they have received. Other duties include assisting in monitoring cases for conflicts and maintaining iDOCIT client information/case management database; conducting initial client interviews; assisting attorneys and investigators as necessary in preparing and typing reports, subpoenas, legal forms, motions, briefs, and correspondence, and organizing case files and trial notebooks. In addition this position will obtain discovery from police department, including coordinating county attorney or third party approval paperwork; obtain legal reference materials and file legal documents with the clerk of court, and locate trial clothing for clients. This position will also service and deliver court documents, such as subpoenas, affidavits, and reports, at the direction of attorneys; serve as trial assistant and defense witness liaison during trials, assisting attorneys to marshal evidence and witnesses, communicate with clients, family members, and expert witnesses. This position has contact with Public Defender clients and good people skills are necessary. Legal experience required.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience equal to two years of full-time general office work, one year of which must have involved secretarial or related administrative support duties.
