BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Under the direct supervision of the Applications Development Manager, the Cloud Systems Administration Specialist is responsible for the management and administration of the cloud based data center and related systems infrastructure. The Cloud Systems Administration Specialist is also responsible for cloud capacity planning and developing/implementing related initiatives to improve the overall reliability and effectiveness of applications and Internet services.
ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:
The Cloud Systems Administration Specialist post is located in the Management Information Services Branch. The incumbent reports to the Applications Development Manager (P5).
MAIN ACTIVITIES / EXPECTED RESULTS
Under the general supervision of the Chief, MIS Branch and direct supervision of the Applications Development Manager, the Cloud Systems Administration Specialist will be responsible for all public, private and hybrid cloud based systems and the organizational communication systems which include Messaging, Calendar, Directory and Single Sign On. Additionally the incumbent will be responsible for the technical architecture of the cloud based application server infrastructure including middleware, database systems, the organizational Global Directory, and an enterprise Portal. The incumbent’s specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Architect, implement and maintain the public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructure and cloud resources to support the needs of various business units implementing web and mobile based systems. Based on systematic evaluations and cost-benefit research, make recommendations regarding use of various cloud alternatives like Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).
- Responsible for cloud infrastructure capacity planning, upgrade planning, patch administration, security administration, and documentation.
- Design solutions to technical problems, monitor critical systems and take corrective actions prior to failures.
- Perform detailed analysis of all production incidents and provide specific technical recommendations for improvements.
- Communicate with vendors, manage vendor contracts and develop/manage service level agreements (SLAs).
- Participate in related infrastructure and security planning sessions by advocating appropriate technology initiatives and coordinating their evaluation, deployment, and management.
- Participate in the development of long-range plans aimed at enhancing cloud infrastructure and security management posture.
- Represent UNFPA to external partners and in interagency meetings related to cloud infrastructure and security.
- Represent MIS in organizational disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives.
- Identify the need for resources for each of the projects and manage the recruitment of needed consultants.

Qualifications, skills and experience required:
Education:
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Knowledge and Experience:
- 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in the server infrastructure and administration fields in a large multinational organization or in a large international corporation, with at least 3 years of related management experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing and maintaining a production Linux (CentOS, RedHat) environment
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the field of Cloud Systems Administration working with Google Cloud Platform, Google Compute Engine and Amazon Web Services.
- Experience in systems administration of Google Apps for Business or Google Drive for Work is highly desirable.
- Broad general knowledge of Cloud Provisioning/Automation Tools like Puppet Labs or Chef.
- A strong knowledge of networking in TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, network troubleshooting, network protocols (DNS, IMAP, POP3, SMTP, DHCP, SSH, LDAP) and firewall security administration.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate solutions and resolve issues. Ability to supervise staff and consultants, make major decisions independently and work well with others. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
- Broad general knowledge of cloud technology, with proficient command of the Linux Operating Systems, Sun Hardware platforms and other UNIX operating systems. A thorough understanding of the Sun Java Messaging, Calendar, Directory and Access Manager (OpenSSO) software.
- Initiative and sound judgment, ability to organize work, demonstrated ability to work in harmony with staff members of different national backgrounds.
Languages:
Fluency in English. The ability to speak and write in French or Spanish is not required but is advantageous. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
