Works with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) field office staff and individual agricultural producers to plan and implement habitat management and restoration projects on private lands to assist the NRCS in delivering Farm Bill conservation programs that will benefit wildlife. Explains Farm Bill conservation programs; maintains producer case files and contract support documents; provides direct technical assistance to plan, design, install, and certify wildlife habitat development plans, wetland restoration plans, and wildlife practices in other conservation plans.
Example of Duties:
- Coordinate the implementation & application of habitat restoration & enhancement within the NRCS Farm Bill conservation programs & The Utah Watershed Initiative Program in cooperation with the local Division of Wildlife Resources wildlife & habitat staff & NRCS District Conservationist.
- Provide range, riparian, & wetland ecology expertise and technical assistance and guidance to landowners, government agencies, organizations and others for conservation planning
- Communicate program requirements and complete site visits to determine eligibility for applicants enrolling in NRCS Farm Bill conservation programs or other state and local conservation programs for the management, protection, restoration and enhancement of wildlife habitat.
- Oversees the development, evaluation or review of plans and criteria for a variety of habitat conservation activities and assesses feasibility of proposed plans, projects and equipment.
- Participates in interagency watershed and habitat planning groups.
Typical Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor’s degree in a directly related field of study (Natural Resources, Biology, Range Management, Wildlife Management, or similar).
- knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements
- knowledge of principles, theories, and practices of wildlife habitat restoration
- knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
- effective interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication; skilled in conducting negotiations; effective presentation skills

- Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g., working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, etc.
- Occasional weekend work
- Must be able to operate four-wheel drive vehicles, ATV’s and transport truck/trailers over unpaved roads; walk long distances across uneven terrain; lift up to 60 lbs.; ride horseback; operate snowmobiles, tractors and other agricultural equipment, and heavy equipment. Work in all types of conditions including adverse conditions for extended periods.
