Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:
INTRODUCTION:
The Senior Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Officer will join the GBV technical team who work within a Technical Unit that provides technical assistance for strategic planning, design, direct and remote support, and monitoring and evaluation of International Medical Corps’ global programs. International Medical Corps’ Technical Unit is within the Program Innovation and Performance department.
International Medical Corps currently implements focused GBV prevention and response programs in 16 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Programs are managed and coordinated by specialists within country operations. The GBV technical team works with country and field-based counterparts to guide and support programming and to ensure quality of interventions across International Medical Corps’ operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior GBV Officer will support the GBV technical team to develop and share program guidance and information with field teams, coordinate with other departments and participate in external coordination and representation. The Senior GBV Officer will travel to support field operations, including emergency response operations.
Support to Program Design and Implementation—70%
- Support a portfolio of country teams implementing GBV prevention and response programs
- Support new emergency response operations, including emergency deployments
- Work with IMC field teams to analyze needs and to explore areas of potential engagement
- Support the design, implementation and analysis of GBV assessments
- Work with teams to design appropriate GBV prevention and response programs, including approaches for implementation, program timelines, staffing structures, and required budgets
- Provide regular input and review of proposals and program reports
- Explore and encourage integration of GBV concerns and activities into existing or planned public health programs, including reproductive and primary health, mental health and psychosocial, and youth programming
- Maintain regular contact with program teams in select countries to stay abreast of issues, program concerns and needs for assistance
- Conduct regular field visits to select countries to provide support, guidance and recommendations for improved programming
- Develop and deliver technical trainings for field staff, volunteers and partner organizations
- Support the recruitment and retention of GBV specialists for ongoing programs and emergency response operations
Information Management and Communications- 15%
- Maintain web-based communication and technical resources
- Prepare and distribute a periodic digest with updates from International Medical Corps’ programs and developments in the field
- Support the development and review of articles on country programs
- Assist in the development of technical guidance notes and tools for program teams
External Coordination—15%
- Participate in relevant GBV coordination meetings (depending on location)
- Review program resources, advocacy briefs and other documents developed by the GBV AoR or other coordination bodies
- Meet with donor agencies as relevant, at HQ and during field visits
Additional Tasks & Responsibilities
- Remain flexible in adopting additional responsibilities based on team and organizational needs, to be balanced with responsibilities listed above
- Maintain positive working relationships with members of the TU and other International Medical Corps colleagues

Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree in social work, public health, psychology, international development or related field.
- Five years of relevant experience, including at least three years’ experience in humanitarian settings, and experience with GBV program design and implementation.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Good understanding of current issues and emerging practices in GBV prevention and response programming.
- Familiarity with international humanitarian operations, coordination structures, and the mandates of donors, UN agencies, and other NGOs.
- Demonstrated flexibility and openness in responding to evolving priorities and environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience in working effectively in an independent capacity and as a member of a team.
- Interest in international travel, including to remote and volatile locations, with expected 40% travel.
- French or Arabic language skills a strong asset.
