DMV Customer Service Representatives (Dane County) - State of Wisconsin - Wisconsin

CSR positions are located at the DMV service centers and provide face-to-face customer support on driver licensing and vehicle registration. These positions are responsible for issuing driver’s licenses, ID cards, instruction permits, motor vehicle registrations, vehicle titles, and license plates. In addition, these positions determine and collect appropriate fees. Some of these positions require travel to different service centers in an area on a daily basis.

TCR positions are located at the central DMV office (Hill Farms State Office Building) in Madison and are responsible for providing information to the general public, law enforcement, courts, and others regarding driver licensing and vehicle registration. These positions are specialized in a section of driver licensing or vehicle registration and often provide consultation to the DMV service centers. Much of the work involves answering questions from the public via the phone, email, and written correspondence.

The starting pay for DMV Customer Service Representative positions is $15.42/hour. Under the current compensation plan, after one year of satisfactory performance in the position a salary increase of $1.40/hr is awarded. Additionally, a sixty cent ($0.60) per hour add-on will be given during weekend hours. These positions offer exciting opportunity for advancement! All DMV CSR positions have the opportunity to reclassify up to the DMV CSR-Senior level after approximately 27 months and will receive an increase in pay to not less than $18.03/hr.


Limited DMV CSR vacancies may require employees to train on license testing. Positions performing these duties will be eligible to reclass up to the DMV CSR-Senior level after approximately 27 months and up to the DMV CSR-Advanced level after an additional 9 months minimum. Reclassification the DMV CSR-Advanced level includes an increase in pay to not less than $19.50/hr. * Staff working in positions that train on or perform driver license examining will be required to possess a valid driver license.


The starting pay for Transportation Customer Representative-Senior positions is $15.42/hr. These positions may also offer opportunity for advancement! After a minimum of one year, candidates hired into a TCR-Senior position may be eligible to reclassify to the TCR-Advanced level which will include an increase in pay not less than $18.03/hr.


WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.


Prior to any appointment for positions filled from this recruitment, candidates may be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check which may include FBI fingerprinting.

The DMV CSR and DMV TCR-Senior positions are in pay schedule/range 02-11. The starting pay for these positions is $15.42 per/hr. Both of these positions may require a 12 month probationary period.
