The Ideal Candidate for the Transportation Aide for MSD (HURF) will have experience in the performing preventative, routine and emergency traffic signal maintenance, assesses pavement conditions of roadways, alleys and parking lots, inspects projects and interacts with contractors, monitors, investigates and troubleshoots traffic signal, video detection, and loop malfunctions. Knowledge of spreadsheets, LUCITY or other asset management programs, roadway traffic control and construction safety is highly desired.

The succeeding examination processes may be required: training and experience, testing, panel interview, fingerprint identification, employment eligibility verification (EEV) requirements, personnel evaluation profile (PEP), polygraph test, background investigation and alcohol/drug screening test. Appointment subject to successful background investigation and City paid post-employment medical examination after offer of employment has been made.
Class Description:
Incumbent is responsible for assisting in inspection and maintenance of traffic signal control devices and lighting systems, and/or pavement.
Education & Experience/Licensing & Training:
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) and two (2) years of construction inspection experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed below.
Licensing & Training:
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License of appropriate class
- International Municipal Signal Association Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification.
- International Municipal Signal Association Traffic Signal Technician Level I Certification.
- International Municipal Signal Association Traffic Signal Technician Level II Certification.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) training, based on assignment.

- Assesses pavement conditions of roadways, alleys and parking lots.
- Assists in developing bid packages and request for quotes (RFQ) for projects.

- Develops and implements traffic signal timing plans, coordination and programming of traffic signal controllers.

- Investigates citizen and law enforcement concerns pertaining to line of site and/or right-of-way issues, roadway and concrete issues and complaints pertaining to city contractors’ work.
- Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work related equipment requiring a valid Arizona Driver License.
