ABA ROLI is a non-profit program that implements legal reform programs in roughly 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly 700 professional staff working abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office. ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organizations, including human rights groups.
JOB SUMMARY
Director-Institutional Advancement
ABA ROLI is seeking a Director of Institutional Advancement responsible for elaborating, designing, testing, and implementing a comprehensive institutional development strategy; cultivating high-level funding contacts and opportunities; and formulating and executing funding approaches targeting a diverse range of prospects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In conjunction with the ROLI Board, the ROLI Director and Senior Staff, oversees, develops, updates and assists in implementing a comprehensive development strategy to support meaningful growth in ABA ROLI’s $40 million annual funding.
Collaborates with ABA FJE organization on fundraising/development opportunities that may of a joint interest.
In coordination with ROLI Senior Staff, develops and implements funding approaches to expand ROLI’s international programs.
Researches, identifies and cultivates potential donors (traditional and non-traditional), including individuals, law firms, corporations, foundations, U.S. and non-U.S. government agencies, and other entities to secure funding to expand ROLI’s operations, with particular emphasis on promoting diversification of the donor base.
Provides fundraising and grant proposal training and guidance to ROLI staff.
Coordinates efforts, including proposal drafting, for grants that are particularly large, complex, or involve multiple offices.
Conducts outreach to strengthen relationships with ROLI’s Board and ROLI alumni for purposes of enlisting and supporting them in development efforts.
In coordination with ROLI Senior Staff, supports management and stewardship of existing donor relationships.
In collaboration with ROLI Senior Staff and overseas Country Directors, develop corporate, foundation and other donor relationships globally.
Work with ABA ROLI’s Outreach Office and the ABA’s Communications and Media Relations Division to advance a strategy that enhances ROLI’s profile inside and outside the ABA.
Provides coaching, counseling, direction, feedback, performance appraisal and, when necessary, applies discipline to an assigned team.
Performs other related duties as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
At least seven (7) years of development experience, with knowledge of grant seeking / securing funding from diverse sources.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & INTERESTS
Previous work experience in an organization supporting international development initiatives.
Previous work experience in developing innovative fundraising relationships, including public-private partnerships, strategic partnerships and consortia.
Previous work experience with non-U.S. Government, especially other bilateral or European, donor agencies.
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university or Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Previous work experience in a non-profit or legal organization would be an asset
