United States of America: Officer, Digital Marketing


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing/Web Administrator, the Digital Marketing Officer will manage supporter acquisition and engagement through digital and social platforms. This position will oversee the conceptualization and implementation of PCI’s digital communication efforts including social media and digital content creation. The Digital Marketing Officer will work collaboratively to create campaigns to generate brand awareness and income for PCI.


**This position can be located at the San Diego, CA or Washington, DC Office


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


Social Media & Digital Marketing


  • Contributes to the Communication and Marketing Strategy.

  • Ensures key messages are consistently communicated to relevant stakeholders.

  • Creates and executes a comprehensive social media strategy and campaigns using on-trend social media marketing techniques to increase visibility, engagement and traffic across platforms.

  • Drives social media marketing by developing content and implementing cross-platform strategies and initiatives to increase engagement, acquisition and income.

  • Collaborates with the Development Officer, Annual Programs to implement cross-channel digital campaigns using strategic and consistent messaging.

  • Works closely with the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing/Web Administrator and other marketing staff to design cutting-edge, creative solutions to video and social media projects.

  • Collaborates with other staff members to conceptualize, write and direct videos for the use in online marketing campaigns.

  • Launches, monitors and analyzes digital marketing campaigns across online channels.

  • Supports efforts to participate in the overall digital NGO conversations by staying tuned into global and peer-NGO trends and campaigns.

  • Monitors and analyzes performance indictors or industry benchmarks for social media activity.

  • Maintains social media content calendar.

  • Enhances digital presence with new technologies and features as they become available.

Email Marketing


  • Works with Senior Manager, Digital Marketing/Web Administrator to establish e-communications schedule and messaging.

  • Works in collaboration with marketing staff to create graphics for email marketing outreach.

  • Builds, tests and refines email messages using email marketing tool and HTML.

  • Monitors the results of each campaign and analyzes metrics to optimize messaging and timing.

  • Supports online marketing efforts to drive event attendance and follow-up.

  • Assists in the writing and editing of email campaign copy as needed.

  • Monitors and analyzes performance indictors or industry benchmarks for cultivation emails.

Online Content Creation


  • Works closely with Global Communications Officer to produce non-technical content to be shared with the general public, including the writing of original articles, sourcing and editing of articles written by other contributors, and contributing to the editorial calendar.

  • Mines and refines content from in-house resources such as the Intranet and Chatter, staff and other sources to be used for all digital channels.

  • Edits and rewrites content as needed.

  • Supports SEO efforts by ensuring blog copy is keyword optimized.

Field & System Support


  • Works with Global Communications Officer to support the active engagement with U.S. and country office employees to promote PCI key messages: gains regular contributions of photos, stories and other materials for PCI use and ensures successful integration of materials to PCI website, blogs, etc.

  • Assists in identifying barriers to storytelling at the field level and helps strategize solutions.

  • Contributes to tools and systems such as the Marcom hub and the Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform.

Position Parameters/Special Provisions:


  • Provides support for media relations.

  • Must be available to work additional hours during peak periods.


  • May require domestic and international travel Required Skills




  • Bachelor’s Degree and three to four years of professional experience in social media management and online marketing.




  • Demonstrated record of success in developing and executing successful online marketing strategies and fundraising campaigns.




  • Nimble, responsive approach to implementing, evaluating, and iterating strategies and solutions.



  • Creative flair and intuition for thinking outside-of-the-box.

  • Expertise in storytelling and social media, especially in taking technical data and improving clarity for a lay audience.

  • Experience with social media management platform

  • Experience with Content Management System (CMS), specifically WordPress preferred, as well as Google Analytics.

  • Proficient in MS Office and Photoshop.

  • Experience in email marketing tools (such as Vertical Response, Constant Contact, MailChimp, etc.) as well as familiarity with coding in HTML.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Superb organization skills.

  • Ability to work as a team member.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills.

  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
