United States of America: Program Coordinator, HA, FNLS


PCI’s Food, Nutrition, and Livelihoods Security (FNLS) and Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Risk Reduction (HA/DRR) technical teams collaborate closely to design and implement food security programs in areas that are highly vulnerable to a broad range of shocks and stresses. The Program Coordinator will contribute to this collaboration by supporting PCI’s HA/DRR and FNLS units in the areas of project coordination, proposal development and reporting, and as necessary administrative and logistical support. S/he manages selected research programs and balances changing needs and priorities in the field and among senior staff.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:**


Technical Support


  • Contribute to design and implementation of PCI’s FNLS and HA/DRR programs, including the mainstreaming of strategies to increase resiliency in livelihoods, agriculture, health and nutrition programming.

  • Support the engagement of food security technical specialists in emergency responses to food security related crises in both rural and urban contexts.

  • Supporting consistent and effective collaboration between field teams dedicated to health, nutrition, livelihoods, and disaster risk management.

  • Support effective knowledge management within PCI’s food security, resilience and climate adaptation programs by helping document best practices / lessons learned and supporting field teams in the collection analysis and use of information for decision making.

Program Coordination


  • Coordinate program components as directed, including ongoing programs, startup of new programs, operations research and other special projects.

  • Facilitate regular communication between program, field offices and key internal staff.

  • Supervise field-based interns and facilitate technical, capacity building and logistical support for intern projects.

  • Contribute to the coordination and development of program-related materials including training materials, presentation materials, and capacity statements.

  • Attend relevant event to enhance PCI program development and track state-of–the-art technical best practices.

  • Support other activities in DC/PODD when necessary i.e., proposals, events.

Proposals and Reports


  • Compile and summarize information for the development/revision of technical documents and reports.

  • Assist with creating and editing marketing materials (capacity statements, lessons learned, abstracts, etc.).

  • Assist with the preparation of proposals including literature searches, formatting, and editing.

  • Assist with dissemination activities related to increasing PCI’s visibility in technical areas.

  • Coordinate review process and serve as reviewer on assigned reports.

  • Collaborate with printers/publishers on the publication and distribution of materials, both internal and external to PCI.

Administrative and Logistical Support


  • Participate in team meetings and facilitate sharing of information between programs to ensure technical integration and complementarity.

  • Help foster an environment of innovation through active participation in innovation processes.

  • Supervise DC-based interns: manage schedules and assignments, help with prioritization and provide support as needed.

  • Provide support and assistance to the Administrative Assistant, working together as needed to accomplish tasks.

Position Parameters/Special Responsibilities Required:


  • May require overtime during peak periods.

  • May require local and travel.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or technical training and 1 additional year of experience

  • Two to four years of related professional experience

  • Experience in food security, nutrition, livelihoods, disaster mitigation and/or humanitarian assistance preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

  • Strong research and writing skills

  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, anticipate actions, and to use creative means to complete tasks

  • A passion for the mission and values of PCI

  • Ability to work as an integral part of a team, taking guidance and input from a variety of staff

  • Computer skills including word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (Excel), presentations (PowerPoint), graphics, Skype and go-to-meeting

  • Fluency in English required, and Spanish or French desirable
