Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Public Information (DPI). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the TV News and Facilities Unit, which is part of the Radio and Television Service of NMD. The Unit produces/ covers a variety of video products about the work of the United Nations at headquarters and in the field.
Responsibilities
Direct LIVE television coverage of meetings, press conferences, briefings and other newsworthy events at headquarters, keeping in mind the political sensitivities of the United Nations.
Provide television direction or advisory functions in the production of special shows originating from Headquarters as requested by television producers and media organizations.
Co-ordinate the production needs with the UN contractual video engineers in their use of video, sound and lighting equipment.
Recommends and plans the best UNTV coverage scenarios at UNHQ and at international conferences outside UNHQ

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations or other related field. A first-level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in journalism or related field, including experience at the international level. Hands-on journalistic experience in a news environment with a television news service or similar media outlet.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in oraland written Englishis required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified applicants may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
